I thought Rex wanted Trestman as his OC what happened to that? Put yourself in Trestman's shoes... Would you rather work with Bortles in Jacksonville or Mariota/Winston in Tampa...or would you rather work with E.J. Manuel and Rex Ryan in Buffalo?

Bucs hired Koetter to be their OC but I do see your point. I would love for him to come to the Jets, it would help Geno.

It sounds like both Trestman and Kyle Shanahan are still out there as possible OCs for the Jets. I don't think I'd have a problem with either.

Seems like Trestman would've signed by now In Jax if they wanted him. Maybe this deal fell apart. I have to agree that either seems like an upgrade over Marty.

Really? Schwartz coached for 9 years under Jeff Fisher, who coached under Buddy Ryan in Houston, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Fisher and Schwartz are close. Schwartz even hired Fisher's son as a D coach in Detroit. As far as philosophy, they both want attacking, hard hitting D's that get to the QB. No Cover 2 or 2 gap schemes for these guys. They want to force the O into errors. Other than the fact that we label their D's as 4-3 or 3-4, there is not a big difference between the 2. Wasn't Fisher the guy Buddy tried to strangle? No that was Kevin Gilbride during the Jets/Oilers game

Now that Rex is in Buffalo, can we call them the Cuckalo Bills?

Dollars to donuts that he hired Roman to run the goofy option/wildcat shit with Manuel. I was almost in agreement with the naysayers until Edelman threw the td. Now i like that "goofy sh1t" even more

now here's something that's pretty strange. woody hired idzik and allegedly forced rex on him. both guys were just fired. rex winds up in buffalo and his gm isn't afraid of him like idzik was. buffalo is actively pursuing some pretty good coaches to fill out rex's staff. the jets hire macgagnon who has a slightly better record than idzik in drafting good players although he did draft from a worse position but has a rebuilding plan. not trying to defend idzik or even want to discuss the whole rex situation anymore but what stopped the jets from getting equally good coaches for rex and even players? and while we're talking players, whose to say milliner and mcdougal don't light it up next season and vindicate idzik?
all very strange.

Maccagnan has never drafted players in his life. He supported the draft process but has never made the final call. What "good" coaches are joining Rex outside of Dunbar?

Losing Dunbar isn't great, but it's not insurmountable, either. Wilkerson, Sheldon, Coples were all 1st round picks and would have been successful with or without Dunbar. I think the only player we can really credit Dunbar for is Damon Harrison. That was a classic case of taking a no-name and turning him into a solid player. I think you can contribute part of that to Rex as well. Devito and Pouha had their best seasons under Rex.

Schwartz and Rex are about polar opposites when it comes to defensive philosophy. I'll believe it when I see it. Except that Schwartz rarely blitzes and relies on his front 4 and and Rex blitzes all the time. Also, Schwartz, is at best, a 50/50 mixer of zone and man, but has generally skewed to more zone, and Rex is almost strictly Man. Outside of those things though, yeah they are extremely similar. I mean, there are very few defenses in the NFL that aim to be hard hitting and generate QB pressure
