Good read. I wouldn't expect to draft a QB this year guys. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.wsj.com/articles/jets-new-offensive-coordinator-goes-with-what-hes-got-1421287808?ru=yahoo?mod=yahoo_itpChan Gailey Has a History of Overachieving With Shaky Offensive PersonnelTodd Bowles was officially named the Jets’ new head coach on Wednesday, and it appears he has already made his biggest off-season decision, hiring veteran play-caller Chan Gailey to be the team’s offensive coordinator. Gailey, who will replace Marty Mornhinweg, has a history of overachieving with shaky offensive personnel—just the sort he’s inheriting with the Jets, who ranked 28th in scoring and 22nd in yards this season. But his arrival may also signal an reluctance on the part of Bowles and new general manager Mike Maccagnan to emphasize offense when making personnel decisions. It could also indicate that the Jets aren’t planning to draft a quarterback this coming off-season, as Gailey has never started a rookie quarterback in his 12 seasons as either a head coach or offensive coordinator. This would be good news for Geno Smith, as Gailey has started a quarterback already on his team’s roster in five of his six stops. The one exception: The 2000 Dolphins, when he shocked the NFL by starting an untested 28-year-old journeyman named Jay Fiedler. Gailey, who is 63, also has shown a willingness to unleash a mobile quarterback like Smith. In 1997 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he orchestrated an offense in which Kordell Stewart passed for 21 touchdowns and ran for 11 more. Stewart’s play spiraled downward when Gailey left the Steelers in 1998 to become head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. What’s most surprising about Gailey’s career is that his offenses have done almost as well in points and yards with journeyman quarterbacks as with Hall of Famers such as Troy Aikman and John Elway. At least Gailey has a low bar to clear: The Jets have finished in the top 10 in yards or points just one time in the past 16 seasons, and since 2011, their average finish has been 28th in points and 26th in yards. —Michael Salfino So just because a rookie QB has never started on a Chan Gailey offense the Jets won't draft a QB? I don't get that logic. Why wouldn't they draft a QB to develop, maybe they don't take Mariotta or Winston if they are there at 6 (I would disagree with that), but why not one in the later rounds to develop?

Saw this on rotoworld. Could be one of the reasons Woddy & Co. grabbed Bowles while they could. "CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora passes along buzz that "some teams" think the Dolphins may still fire coach Joe Philbin and replace him with Seahawks DC Dan Quinn. New Dolphins football czar Mike Tannenbaum was Quinn's agent before taking the job with Miami and had to pass Quinn off to a client at Priority Sports agency. The connection is there. Per La Canfora, opposing teams think there's a chance Tannenbaum will can Philbin in favor of Quinn if Quinn doesn't get a head-coaching job before the Super Bowl. We'd support this move from Miami. Jets canceled their interview with McDermott. That's a good sign.
"The Jets have canceled their head-coaching interview with Panthers DC Sean McDermott. This could be taken as a sign the Jets and Cardinals DC Todd Bowles have agreed to terms on a contract to make Bowles the next head coach for Gang Green. Good to do the due diligence, as well as keeping options open just in case. Also, if Mac is involved, it gives him some experience with the interview process.

If Quinn wants the Jets and Woody wants Quinn they'll both wait for each other..

ok so.....first he goes on a first class asshole run denouncing Marrone as a HORRIBLE choice and how he wouldnt fit and is thick skinned, etc.....and NOW..he has a source for this REVELATION that Quinn wants us above all other possible opportunities? Hmmm....it might be true but this just sounds more and more like more of the same he doesnt want maronne to get the job and is trying to make it seem more feasible that Quinn is here...............not that there's anything wrong with that Maybe his "source" is Quinn's agent or someone connected to him. Quinn wants the NYJ job, hears Marrone is a top guy, has his people get is Mehta's ear about all of Marrone's shitty qualities. Again, not that there's anything wrong with that.

If he is there you take him. You don;t succeed without a QB, and he has the talent. The new FO has to have faith in their CS to keep him inline if needed.

we need to get a GM first. What I am saying is hire Eliot Wolf and let him do what he feels is best. Wolf got a promotion in GB to Packers director of player personnel. It seems GB is doing their best to keep him there.

I'd like to see them make a run at Glennon if TB drafts one of the QBs.

i think Cable is a great pick. had success as a position coach, then failure as a head coach - what a way to learn lessons about yourself and your profession. now he's the assistant head coach of arguably the currently most successful team in the NFL, learning from perhaps the NFL's premiere head coach. he's undoubtedly learned yet another thing or two from Pete. their offense is a success. he would obviously bring some of their defensive minds over as well. Would Cable be an option for OC if Quinn is hired as HC? Get a full Seattle infusion with Kirchner, Quinn, Cable, and probably one of Quinn's assistants as DC.

I think one of the QBs will be there for the Jets at 6. Tampa will most likely take a QB, but after seeing this report below today, there's a chance TN passes on one, and I don't think WAS will take one either. Rotoworld: "Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean believes the Titans would pass on both Florida State QB Jameis Winston and Oregon QB Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 overall pick in May's draft. It sounds like the Titans are seriously considering going all-in on Zach Mettenberger as their 2015 starter. Wyatt -- one of the most trusted beat reporters in the business -- is essentially echoing a report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen, who stated Sunday the Titans were "content" with Mettenberger under center. Wyatt "can't see" the Titans using the No. 2 pick on a quarterback." Jim Wyatt Twitter Link

Yeah, something's rotten in Denmark here. "Suspended" without reason to keep him from hitting FA? I'll withhold judgment until I hear more. According to ESPN Cleveland he missed Saturday's walk-through.
