Jets request interviews with Bowles, Cable, Kubiak and Reich
Like the idea of Bowles. Cable is a good OL coach but struggled as a head coach with the raiders. Kubiak? Great offensive mind, terrible head coach. Reich? I think its too early for him to be considered for a head gig. Just my two cents..thoughts?

Kubiak is likely a personal favor by/for Casserly. No chance he gets the job. Wont hurt to pick his brain about Geno and the offense as a whole.
Bowels is definitely a legit candidate except for the fact that he is a DC.
Cable is a better version of Sparano.
Reich is interesting. Born on LI. I agree with you about his resume.

i think Cable is a great pick.
had success as a position coach, then failure as a head coach - what a way to learn lessons about yourself and your profession.
now he's the assistant head coach of arguably the currently most successful team in the NFL, learning from perhaps the NFL's premiere head coach. he's undoubtedly learned yet another thing or two from Pete. their offense is a success. he would obviously bring some of their defensive minds over as well.

I hope we don't just force an offensive guy, if a D guy is the best coach than you still take him.

I don't even consider Cable a failure as a HC.
I personally always thought that the Raiders were dumb as hell for getting rid of him.
Ditto for Hue Jackson

Just when it seemed like Cable was getting the Raiders going, of course the Raiders fired him.
On an unrelated note I just realized the last o-minded coaches we had were Kotite & Coslet (shudder). So who the fuck knows.

Ive been pimping Reich for months. Big hand in Rivers revival in SD. Dark horse contender. That's a solid list.

Ditto for Hue Jackson agreed, i used the word failure too recklessly. i dont think anybody that's ever coached in OAK should have that held against them, especially while Al was still alive. still, his time there (in lieu of failure) definitely taught him something. i think most football fans would agree that the offensive line is probably the second most important function of any team, closely behind QB. it doesn't hurt that he has an OL background and thus may put an emphasis on the trenches - then again thats all conjecture. he's seen first-hand the development of Russell Wilson, and is coming from a team that wasn't afraid of playing a 3rd round rookie QB that simply looked better than everyone else at practice. that mentality alone is what's needed so much here. it doesn't matter what you're paid or when you were drafted. if you deserve to play, you're going to play. so consider me on the Cable train. i like Quinn, Bowles, and Reich too, but i think Cable's experience as a HC is the clincher.

Would Cable be an option for OC if Quinn is hired as HC? Get a full Seattle infusion with Kirchner, Quinn, Cable, and probably one of Quinn's assistants as DC.

Shouldn't we be seeing lists of potential GM's before all these coaches? I don't want the egg before the chicken again as a GM should be able to have say for his coach. Woody is getting it ass-backwards again.

I don't think it matters which side of the ball your coach hails from. Your coordinators will take care of the Xs and Os, it's the managerial aspect that makes or breaks a good HC.
What connections do you have and how good of a CS can you assemble?
Can you manage the personalities and egos of your roster and CS?
Situational awareness on game day, having the brains/balls to make the correct calls.
Knowing when to demote/promote players based on performance and not tenure.
John Harbaugh was a special teams coach. He was never an O or D coordinator but he's made an excellent HC. It's all about managing the team, the coordinators will take care of the Xs and Os. Some of these guys are great at calling a game but does that mean they can handle a 53-man roster and an entire coaching staff?

I don't get the Seattle love, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Their success is a result of having a load of talent on the defensive side of the ball imho, offensively they scare no one. That being said looks like the Jets will most likely be breaking in another rookie head coach, swell.
