I have to say though. If that was a Fox News host they would never get the benefit of the doubt that woman is getting. And I do enjoy the irony of someone who looks like a textbook 2020 progressive woman being involved in something like this.

I had originally heard that the helicopter had mechanical problem. Now I read that there was dense fog & the pilot was flying around for 15 minutes, waiting for clearance to land at Burbank airport. Now it sounds like a total screw up by the pilot. Normally that helicopter has 2 pilots but this flight only had one. And he was apparently flying on visual flight & not using instruments. He was warned twice that he was flying too low. The crash has been described as a CFIT, which is a controlled flight into terrain. The helicopter flew nose first into the mountainside @ 185 MPH. If you’re waiting for clearance to land, you don’t fly at 185mph if you’re a helicopter. no kidding, did he thibk he was 1000 feet higher than he was??? we should be higher than the mountains now, lets get to burbank in a hurry?

This is a really odd one. I have watched it a couple dozen times and I was convinced she said the n word and then I was convinced she said naykers. This might be one of those yanny or laurel things. Seemed /seems like a harmless error. I see nothing here.

I saw the same. Also saw that LAPD had grounded all of their Helicopters the same morning. (He should have known this?) I know it doesnt take much for the NYPD to ground theirs. Its possible he felt pressure not to let clients down and he thought his ability would carry him through adverse conditions. Just so sad, such a waste. And those poor kids on board. Jeez. I think you might be onto something. Very hard to disappoint your clients. Especially well-known and connected ones. I wouldnt be surprised if we find out this particular pilot has flown for Kobe before. Sad. I bet those kids loved flying the helicopter. Its a great experience.

Seemed /seems like a harmless error. I see nothing here. Im inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. Because that is the healthy and sane thing to do. Plus, she has already apologized for the confusion. But like I said in another post, I larf at the irony. Her network would be running the clip for hours had it happened to someone on Fox News. Just the world we live in.

Kinda early for your daily rant, no? You must have a busy day planned. I get it, you have an opinion.. and I rant. On a campus you would be swatting signs, knocking hats off and shutting down rallies because views that dont align with yours are abhorrent and must be stopped. Here's an idea, instead of mocking me, tell us if you think this woman (who works for a network I have little respect for) is a racist who must be fired/punished, fed to the mob. I'm truly interested in your opinion and would entertain your thoughts seriously. I'm guessing..."Calm down shemp" pops into your brain instead. We've danced before. I think this woman had a slip of the tongue and any discussion of this is assinine. I have long ago lost my comprehension of modern day society where this even "a thing." BTW...if you've seriously come to the conclusion that "because views that don't align with yours are abhorrent and must be stopped" you've seriously mis-read me. While I have my disagreements with people I'll never call for anyone to be silenced...or else I risk being silenced. People with different life experiences some to different conclusions. it would be crazy to think we would all agree on everything. The weird thing is most of us would agree on 85% of things. So yeah I don't rant. I don't see the purpose. But rant on if it works for you.

If you’re waiting for clearance to land, you don’t fly at 185mph if you’re a helicopter. I was thinking the same thing - 185 is probably about top speed for a helicopter. What on earth was it doing flying top speed at low altitude in the fog on visual flight rules. It beggars belief. I know planes can get into a graveyard spiral without spatial awareness, where the pilot keeps pulling the turn sharper and sharper and the plane goes faster and is posting 'up" but all while losing lift. I wonder if there is something similar in choppers.

Yeah, RIP Kobe, but damn, no way in hell am I getting in a helicopter with my kid with those visibility concerns. Pilot should have known better, but even the passengers should have said no way are we flying in this. I used to arrange rescue flights for dogs down south coming to NY, and its all volunteer pilots in small aircraft. Many of them only flew visual, weren't instrument rated, and fog like that grounded many a flight plan because of poor visability.
