At the end of the day, he was a great athlete, but also at the very least, lied about having sex with the girl, then admitted to having rough sex with her and having rough sex with women other than his wife. The girl never testified, so in the eyes of the law, he's not a rapist (and those reporters should be cautious with how they word things, lest they get sued). We all know how that works... 19 year old hotel worker gets raped, figures Kobe will get off anyway, so she takes the payday. Or it was consensual and she was going for a payday. We'll never know the truth. On the other hand, he was reportedly a positive mentor to a lot of adults and kids, and helped young players with loans during the NBA lockout. For a lot of fans of a certain age, not old enough to see Jordan in his prime, he was their Jordan, and the bridge between MJ and Lebron. All true. People's lives are rarely all good or all bad. Humans are inherently flawed. None of should be judged on our worst days. It's like Mike Vick. I know people who will never ever forgive him. I like to think that we can all learn as we grow and become better. But I'm an idiot. So who knows. Sad thing is this stuff doesnt surprise me anymore. There are only a handful of athletes or celebrities I would be truly surprised if something awful came to light about them.
