That was awesome. Spent the weekend installing a kitchen while listening.
Crazy story and really good reporting. I thought they were fair when they were able to substantiate theories or not. There were some shortcuts like the first dude who broke into his car. He just happened to find the home, the car...and out of nowhere the next day he gets raided by the cops looking for the bag. How did they know it was him?
If this was a show, we'd prolly turn it off thinking it's too far fetched!

The interesting thing about Burke is that I had been hearing about him for years before Gilgo broke. A friend of mine (ex-NYPD) had a relative who was framed by Spota and Burke who were indeed connected going back to the John Pius case. He basically told us all the bad things about Burke even before he got jammed up for beating up the kid who broke into his car (and trying to cover it up). It was all out there, the drugs, hookers etc. Because of Spota's influence, this guy basically had free reign in Suffolk for years and Suffolk had a real rep. for terrible corruption and cronyism. The retired cop reported Burke and Spota to anyone he could, the Feds/media etc. over the course of many years. Nobody was interested. Supposedly when the kid broke into Burkes car he took a bag containing some really vile, violent porn and sex toys. His girlfriend at the time was an actual crack-head hooker. A real, genuine sociopath. I have little doubt he was involved if not totally responsible. Unfortunately, as a cop, he was good at hiding his tracks and keeping evidence to a minimum. Plus, the Feds and the Suffolk police fucked up the investigation from the start and to this day I think they all want it to go away because the whole case reflects negatively on all of them. In the podcast they highlight that once Burke was named Chief of Police (which is crazy in itself considering the amount of shit he had on him), he immediately canned all the chief investigators (without any discussions with them about the case), and kicked the feds off the case as well.

Actually drove past Gilgo Beach Sunday. Creepy little place next to breath-taking Ocean views. Dont understand how no one saw anything except Shannon Gilbert "screaming they're trying to kill me" right before she was never seen alive again. They know whose house it was..yet...nothing.

ok as my obsession continues...my cable company gave me discovery+ for free for 6 months, the podcast team has a show which premiered yesterday, Unraveled, the visuals and added discussion is worth the watch for those interested. Here's a spoiler, the go to Burke's house, knock on the door, and ask to speak with him, someone answers from behind the door, "he doesn't live here."
LOL I had two flashbacks, first to Chevy Chase, "Candygram," and second to Otter in Animal House, "We're doing the dishes." The two look at eacho ther and say, tha was his voice.

Yeah, right. The murders involve the rich and powerful of the area and certain LEOs, so it will never be publicly solved for many years until all involved are dead and gone. The longer it goes on, the more those involved or have knowledge pass away, and the colder the ‘investigation’ gets.

Rodneys a good guy. Likes to drink, smoke cigars and play golf. Actually hung out with him (in a large group) a few months ago. I wish him luck. I would still like to know more about whomever owned the house Shannon was seen running from, and their connections to Burke and the ex-DA Spota. Suffolk is notoriously corrupt and insular, so maybe having an outsider give it a fresh look will empower those in Suffolk that felt they could not speak out previously.

I don't understand him holding a press conference unless he is close to making an arrest. It just seems like he brought undue pressure on himself.

Just to play the game and give the illusion of doing something.

Perhaps they have new suspect(s) and want to nudge someone out of their rabbit hole. "Tickling the wire", as it were. Wait to see who calls who after the announcement etc. Using the lowly case Det. to make an announcement would perhaps been ignored by the media. Using the new PC will guarantee it gets in the headlines. Just a thought.

I was watching a TV documentary called "The Killing Season", Not to be confused with a drama series of the same name. I came to the conclusion that it was a cop too. If anyone has a dropbox or something I can share the show.
