Ok, I read this post a few days ago and was capable of not much more than liking it. Now that we’re past the national…holiday…I can say I feel your pain and am furious you are being forced to deal with this bullsh*t after everything you sacrificed for this city, the effort you put into your second career, and what you have to deal with at home. God bless ya, brother. Thanks bud. Sadly, my union is next to non-existent on this issue, and many of the RNs in my hospital are partisan on it. I gently reminded them that administration recognizes that and come contract time will definitely exploit it, crickets. So.... Unreal. Lemmings.

This is just a heads up from someone in another part of the country(NM) where that mandate has come and gone. The big three hospitals out here, UNM, Presbyterian, and Lovelace will not announce the numbers of staff that have been fired even though the local media pushes. What they're doing is furloughing non compliant employees for four months, at least that is what I'm hearing. When they do release the numbers it will no doubt skew them because of how many will not be technically "non compliant and fired".

A lot of RNs have seemingly embraced Covid as a defining thing in their lives. Plenty of FDNY fell victim to that after 9/11, too so I get it. Doesn't make it any less sad.

Come on bro, a handful of Facebook posts in no way disproves the efficacy of the vaccines. Anecdotal evidence from a few randos on Facebook ain't it chief

I think we’re all a combinations of what we go through. Human nature. My neice has stories from being navy nurse in Afghanistan, now more from Covid. How it doesn’t change you I can’t imagine. And if you were FDNY at 9/11 I can’t imagine being the same after. Everyone’s different I guess.

To answer the question in the original post, I got the Pfizer vax back in March/April. My inlaws got it, sister-in-law, brother-in law, my sister and brother-in-law. Pretty much the whole family from 38 to 70 is vaccinated. For the record, my wife had Covid in Spring 2020, a moderate case, never tested at the time but had antibodies in August 2020. I may have had a mild case at the same time, but never confirmed/tested/checked for antibodies because, well, everything was shut down at that point and we just quarantined. At the same time, could have been the flu. Who knows?
6+ months later, no one has contracted Covid, and no one has had any adverse effects. I was dead tired the day after the second shot, that's about it, as were some of the other family members. That's all I can say. I dont judge people for getting it or not getting it.
My wife's school in westchester is now mandating all employees either get vaccinated or get tested weekly, the latter I'm told, at their own expense. I don't really agree with that on a personal level.
