Giving this newly-gifted bottle a try tonight: Compare what you though to the thoughts of my favorite whisk(e)y reviewer, Ralfy.

Anyone know anywhere to buy Scotch samples that ships to the states? Probably going to end up using masterofmalt.com but the shipping to the US is ridiculous, like $50-100 factoring in customs charges

Not much point in importing as the £ to $ exchange is too high. Does anyone here drink Mescal?

Unfortunately online from Europe may be the only way for 3-5ml samples. And I love Mezcal, always have a bottle of Del Maguey on hand, have a bottle of Minero that I'm half way through. Smokey stuff, always say its tequila for Scotch drinkers.

Edited my post above, link/vid works now. Apologies. Whiskynotes pretty much nailed what I'm talking about when they said "initially quite smoky and phenolic." I definitely am able to pick up some of the finer notes now that I'm deeper into the bottle, but that was what initially jumped out for me, and it still is the most featured aspect to the whisky, IMO. I agree that it's hard to beat for the money, but I'll still take a Glenmorangie 10yo over it everyday.

I love Mescal myself although I know of no other English people who do. It's a bit of a hipster drink these days so I can't go to the bars that serve it as my alter ego Stabby McStabberson would appear and I may subsequently be deported. I have a windfall coming in February so I'm gonna have a good look at importing some good stuff.

Wanted to Branch out from Scotch to try some Bourbon or Canadian Whisky. Unfortunately, the State Store's in PA don't often have a very good selection. I couldn't find a Bourbon that interested me, but I stumbled upon this Pike Creek Whisky from Canada. It is matured in Bourbon barrels and extra-finished in Port barrels. It was very nice. I'd almost call it a dessert whisky, if there were such a thing.

Either of the Glendronachs or the Glengoyne would be my first choice. Never had anything from Caol Ila, so that's intriguing too.

Just finished a bottle of Glendronach so may put those off - Glengoyne is 100% foreign to me so maybe that's the way to go. Also Caol Ila is great from what I've had, very underrated Islay. Only had the 12 which is a steal for the price, definitely recommend.
