Clint Eastwood might have lost a few fans when he had a dialogue with an empty chair. But how much can you fault a man who maintains his beliefs when faced with overwhelming dissent?
Clint Eastwood has obviously achieved fame and success outside of referring to Obama as an empty chair, and he remains no stranger to controversy. He has opened up about what he calls “the pussy generation”. Our generation. And, unfortunately, it’s not because we get a lot of it.
Eastwood has claimed that society has turned us into pussies. And with the advent of political correctness, this symptom of our generation is plain to see. But he speaks for the majority, not the cream of our generational crop, who have risen above the pedestrian lifestyle to function in the elite category of men.
“The Pussy Generation”
The pussy generation to which he is referring should not be limited to Generation-Y, it’s a collective nomenclature for people born within the last 30 years. The people who attack and harass the 1% for the redistribution of wealth.
But what the average plebeian can’t comprehend is that these people have worked hard for their money. Nowhere in the great literature of humanity does it dictate the redistribution of wealth. Isn’t that socialism? Communism? And don’t we hate the damn reds?
There is this intrinsic sense of entitlement . We deserve what we WANT – not even what we need – simply because we’ve graced this world with our presence. And in turn it will bestow its riches. Unfortunately, the world just doesn’t work that way. Entitlement does not yield success.
None of us really want to work. We want that quick ticket to success and we’ve been babied into believing the real world owes us. We have selective hearing. We only take in what we want. We’ve become delusional idiots. Our generation is wrought with the jealousy of the have-mores. We’re the occupy movement: the complainers, the whiners, the jealous and the weak.
Instead of actually building our work ethic and dedication, we decide to take the easy way out. To get to the apex of success, you need to sacrifice. And as many people who desire that success, most will never take the risk.
The disease of the Pussy Generation has crept its way into every facet of our existence. In work, it’s less work, more play. They enslave themselves to the axiom: work hard, play harder. This generation does not know hard work. It’s the quick fix approach: Some adderall to cram the night before the exam.
An old boss once said that lazy people end up doing double the work they would have if they weren’t lazy. And that holds true.
We live for the now, but demand the fruits of others’ labor, the work they do to reap rewards in the future. I’m all for enjoying life, traveling, meeting people and truly living. That’s what life is about. But we need balance. If we want success, we have to earn it.
Not take it, not wish for it, receive it, but EARN IT. A fact that has been lost by a generation who stomps its feet and cries if success isn’t immediate. Truthfully I am embarrassed to be grouped with this generation of pussies.
Call me old-fashioned, but back in the day if you worked your ass off, kept your mouth shut and made something out of nothing, you got what you deserved. We’re a generation that consumes the present and neglects the future. We eat our cake and expect it to be there tomorrow.
We enjoy what we were paid yesterday and today and we’re fucked when we’re in our 60s. If we haven’t reached our dreams by the time we’re 30, we dive into a deep depression. We look without, not within. We see others with success, but we fail to see the beauty of the journey we’re on, the sacrifices we’re making that shape the man we become. All we see is what we don’t have, in looking at those who do have.
Each man is his own man. His path, his own path. To those with the balls to work hard and follow their dreams, I salute you. But stay the course. Success isn’t a birth right. But with hard, purposeful work, it is inevitable.
The Three Phases of Life
There are three phases of life and once you understand them, you can realize the path your life will follow. These three phases shape a man and his his destiny and put him in the position he wants in life. They take time, it’s not an overnight thing. Luck is ill-defined in modern culture, it happens when hard work meets opportunity. It’s about being in the right place at the right time, and if you’re not already there, move.
The Learning Phase 20-25
Disclaimer: the aforementioned ages are not cemented, but represent the average age in the process. The first phase is the learning phase, because that’s what comprises our young adult lives. This is when we learn how things work in the real world. This is when we absorb, where we perfect our craft, when we become the best at what we do. The rewards are modest, but they get us by.
This is the step that our pussy generation is currently missing. We feel that our shitty BA in Drama or English makes us brilliant and better than everyone else. We feel our earnings should automatically match our work output. Or, even worse, that our earnings should reflect our sense of entitlement. Ha, boy do they have a rude awakening coming their way.
I was with a buddy of mine the other day who just finished college, it took him four and a half years, and a lot of money to do so. But nonetheless he got a blue hat with a string and a congratulations, now go fuck yourself from the school. He didn’t even know what a W-9 was or how to even put together a respectable résumé without the words “office bitch” under an internship in ‘08. This is America.
The Earning Phase 25-50
This is the phase in life where we begin to reap the rewards from our learning phase. This is when we begin to earn some real money. When we can afford a real vacation, a nice car, a home and the presence of a bulgarian escort while sunbathing in the French Riviera.
The prerequisite, however, is that we busted our asses in the Learning Phase – that’s the only way to the Earning Phase.
Giving Back 60+
As we have created our mini (or not so mini) empire, we begin to find the need to give back. Bill Gates does it and so have many others. This isn’t just with specific to money and charity, it’s giving knowledge back and passing down the torch to the next. It’s being a mentor and helping those who are lost in life.
The three phases in life are in stark contrast to the mindset of the Pussy Generation. Success, to them, comes immediately – with or without work. The things, the cars, the houses and the vacations, are all now.
Are The Three Phases Set In Stone?
No. Not at all. You might skip them and advance more quickly than others because they understand what it takes earlier than others. There’s always the faster learner in class. It’s all about figuring out the system. Once you know it, then there is nothing that can stop you.
The Way of The Old School
Our generation is weak. We’re jealous. We hate hard work, demand what we don’t deserve, and crumble under the weight of the burdens that come with life. Yet there is hope.
There are many motivated and focused people out there who are putting it all on the line and are ambitious. But they only come in a handful. Odds are, so are you. We train expecting pain, venture into business expecting and ready for years of hardship and hard work with little pay. We know that life is a barter, that we can’t get something great without giving up something greater.
“Old school” is a term that alludes to toughness both mental and physical. If you look at what previous generations had to go through to just put food on their table, you might realize what hard work is. The tough, strong, old school men of today are outnumbered. We’re drowned out by the whining of the new school, as Clint puts it, “the pussy generation.”
But that’s fine by us, because to be old school is to be silent. It’s the old school silent warrior. The bite that far outweighs the volume of his roar. The man who understands that loose lips sinks ships.
Be old school. Don’t whine, complain or wish you were elsewhere. You are where you are for a good reason. What we have and where we are right now is where we deserve to be – good or bad. But this is not where we’re going to end up. Keep pushing. Whatever you want to accomplish in life, whether it be a career, family or general hustle. Focus. Let nothing stand in your way: not even jealousy, laziness or our burning desire to complain.
The old school simply puts its head down, doesn’t complain, and out hustles those that do. It’s life, it’s simple.
