1 game out fellas! Thor was dominant tonight. Now if we can add a big bat before Fri. we'll be in a good position for the Nats series. Again, I still think Upton may stay in NY when the Padres leave town. Team seems to be firing all on cylinders again, even Wright is expected back in AAA within a week. Only concern with Upton is their asking price - they were asking Wheeler and his full contract for basically two months of play. I have been dead set against the idea of trading Wheeler for a 2 month rental. Would prefer that we go after a guy like Carlos Gomez or Jay Bruce who are at least under contract for next year. But sitting a game behind the Nationals -- it might be worth the risk, but I would rather it be for a guy like Cespedis. Its been too long since this team has been relevant in September or October. If we find a way to get into the playoffs, with Thor, deGrom and Harvey at the top of the rotation, we would be a scary team to face.

Anyone watch that game? Carlos Gomez trade for Flores and Wheeler midgame (which is good for both sides IMO) but they keep Flores in the game because the trade isnt official yet. Poor kid was crying at shortstop, been with the Mets since he was 16. So bizarre.
On the bright side we have a pretty solid offense now. On the down side again Colon has now lost 6 in a row...we need Matz back ASAP.

Worst franchise in pro sports, what a joke. Why can't they ever do anything the normal way?

Sounds like the same old Mets -- at least according to this series of twitter updates. May have been more about $ than injury concerns.
Tom @haudricourt 17m17 minutes ago The more details I get on nixed Gomez trade, the more it sounds as if it became more financial matter than medical matter. Anyone surprised?
Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 49m49 minutes ago Melvin: "I don’t believe Carlos Gomez has a phsycial issue. Our training staff won best in baseball the last 2 years."
Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 48m48 minutes ago "We take a lot of pride in that. We don’t think anything is wrong with him besides any nick that happens to any ballplayer." (Cont)
Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 45m45 minutes ago Gomez had MRI 3-4 weeks back for an abductor issue. Not hip. Medical report said no problem with abductor or hip #Brewers #Mets
Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 44m44 minutes ago #Mets asked #Brewers during process to take Lagares rather than Flores to wash some $. Milw didn't want future dollars. Wanted Flores for 3b
Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 43m43 minutes ago #Mets had talked to #Brewers about eating $ on Gomez, giving comp pick But sides ultimately agreed Flores/Wheeler for Gomez PENDING MEDICALS
Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 40m40 minutes ago #Mets faced '16 with 4 OFs making big $. Probably were being uber cautious with Gomez's medicals to have that payroll issue #Brewers

Article from today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Why would anybody want to deal with the Mets after this. www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/320022541.htmlBaloney. This stuff happens all the time, according to Duquette.... it's just that in this instance it happened to be leaked out on social media. Sandy has been doing a good job on the limited budget given. Let's see how this plays out. Brewers are "Butt Hurt" if I can quote the abominable snowman from another board!

I would probably agree with you, Booz, if not for the way this franchise has been run for the last 5 or 6 years. It has always come down to money -- they have lost the benefit of the doubt in my mind. Doesn't really matter at this point - Gomez is not coming, for whatever reason. Hopefully Sandy still has one more move up his sleeve. In other news, Grandy with the 3 run HR -- we are up 4-0. Edit: And, I will happily admit to being wrong if Sandy makes another move by tomorrow that takes on a similar salary to Gomez.

No.... last years team sucked d!(k. This years team has been competitive and learning how to win. We have a good nucleus and hopefully we can grab the division or wild-card which will help this team learn what it takes to be a perennial winner.

Well that sucks horse balls!
David Schoenfield: "Love, love, love the Astros getting Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers from the Brewers. Your loss, Mets. The Astros get an elite center fielder for this year AND next year and control Fiers through 2019. I think this deal makes them the favorite to beat out the Angels in the AL West and they still held on to Vincent Velasquez and Mark Appel. Good job, [Houston GM] Jeff Luhnow."

Maybe we can get another BP arm thrown into the deal. Familia struggling of late.
Mets Trade Rumors: Reds are now willing to talk Jay Bruce, Zack Wheeler
Latest Update
The Reds are now willing to discuss a deal involving OF Jay Bruce and RHP Zack Wheeler, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney (July 30, 7:36 p.m.).
There had been reports in June indicating the Reds might consider trading 3B Todd Frazier, but recent talk has instead centered around them keeping him and signing him to an extension (July 17).
Previous Reports and Reaction
The Mets and Reds about discussed a deal for Bruce involving Wheeler last week, but talks did not gain traction (July 25). Nevertheless, the Mets continued to scout Bruce, a source told MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo earlier this week (July 26).
Bruce is due roughly $5-6 million between now and the end of the season. He will earn $12.5 million in 2016. He can earn $13 million in 2017 or be made a free agent with a $1 million buyout.
MLB.com’s Reds reporter Mark Sheldon believes Bruce could be dealt before Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline (July 26), since they’ve been listening to trade offers for him since the start of the month (July 18).
The Angels, Royals and Orioles have also reportedly shown interest in Bruce, according to updates by MLB Trade Rumors (July 30).
