So last week my wife of twelve years told me that she filed for divorce. I don't really know what to do or what to expect. We have two kids 11 and 7. We own a house. What to do? start a fight club |

First off, I don't buy the first post divorce stuff but being divorced, I'll play along.
Listen to Trades. Sounds like she somewhat surprised you on this so fuck her. Hire a very good lawyer and don't fight this with your heart. You want as much control as you can over the money and the kids. Being nice and letting her have the house because of the kids is bullshit. If she thinks that's so fucking important, tell her to let you have the kids and live there. When it comes to divorces, nice guys are fucking idiots.
And again, as Trades says, always be there for your kids and it will get better.
Personally, I was pretty lucky in the divorce. I got divorced when I was broke so my child support was low and when I did start making money, my ex never took me back to court because I Really took care of my kid. I wanted to make sure he was well taken care of but I wanted to control the money.
My my ex is nice, we just couldn't stay married and we ended up having an amicable divorce. We still get along 21 years after separating. I guess the fact that we rarely speak and live in separate staes helps.
When my son turned 11, her life was a bit of a mess and she asked me to have my son live with me. That is beyond lucky.
Anyway, if this isn't bullshit, good luck.

Lawyers are always going to tell you to hire them.
The best you can do is talk to her and try to see what she thinks is reasonable on the major issues. If shes not batshit greedy and delusional, then you can proceed amicably without giving everything to your attorneys. Ny is really bad with divorces.......you can wind up in court for years easily racking up 60k each in lawyers fees. Try to talk sense with her.....not every divorce has to be ugly
Of course if shes nutty greedy, youll have no choice but to play dick. Right now, the big thing is dads rights so if you can have your kids 50 percent of the time you wont have to pay crazy child support. Alimony is not what it used to be either. Life goes on think of the sweet new pussy and ass youll be burying your tounge into

Then she took that to a lawyer who told her he would get her more and we spent months and thousands for her to get one extra year of alimony added to the deal. I have no idea what the cause of their split is but don't fool yourself into thinking that you had enough issues to make you want a divorce but now she will be realistic. Obviously everyone's situation is different but be careful and err on the side of caution. You can lawyer up and still try your best to be fair while also being cautious. |
