Good game. Isles generally capitalized on their scoring chances. Halak played great. PK still blows. DeHaan had a few WTF-r-u-doing moments. Two more well needed points. On to Calgary. WPG played a good game too. Would have been a lot closer if they could stay out of the box. I thought it was a solid road win. I thought the Isles spent more time in their own zone last night than they had in a lot of recent games -- as Winnipeg controlled the puck for extended periods of time, but they took away the shooting lanes and limited the Jets opportunities. The Jets spent a lot of time in the zone but couldn't convert -- where have we heard that one before. I was almost relieved when we never extended the lead to 3 until the empty netter. They definitely play better up 1 or 2 than with a seemingly more comfortable lead. And yes, PK is still abysmal, gave up 1 PP goal and aonother just seconds after the kill expired.

At this point, they should just scrap their current PK plan and try something, anything, different. Seems painfully obvious to everyone, except the coaches, that it just isn't working.

Even with the bad PK and the power play that has not been so hot either, still tied for first place in the Division on New Year's Day and one point behind TB in the Conference. Can't complain about that.

Last season, after 37 games, we had 27 points and 10 wins (only 6 ROW). Not a bad turnaround in a year: 51 points, 25 wins and 19 ROW.

Good, solid 2-1 win last night.
Only allowed 23 shots. I think that's great to try and limit shots and not have to rely on Halak so much.
When does Johnson get the next start? Friday at NJ?

I agree -- I would have liked to see Halak get the shutout, but a really good win. I really liked that they won a really tight checking, physical game by playing really well in their own end. They took a lot away from Calgary, taking away passing lanes, blocking shots -- it was a really good road win. As for Johnson, I would rather see him get a start against a Western Conference opponent, so give him one of these next two games -- maybe Tues in Vancouver and then let Halak play the back to back against Division opponents. If they give him the Vancouver start, it has the added bonus of being a late west coast game on a weekday night, so we don't have to subject ourselves to watching another Johnson start.

True, great points about the next game w/Johnson in net!
maybe Johnson in net vs. a relatively soft Edmonton team. Try and get him any sort of W to boost confidence.

Lets not forget that Tavares is finally getting his head out of his ass. I'm seeing a hat trick in the near future.

A point or more tonight, and the Isles would stand alone on top of the Metro.
