This team will not win in the post season if they cannot fix the power play. This is inexcusable. They are around 50% on the kill over the last 6 or 7 games. Good teams do not play like this -- I just don't understand how we can be so bad--dead last in the league on the PK.
Dan Savarino @dansavarino 11m11 minutes ago During each of the #Isles 3gm losing streak, they have had a PK no better than 50% (43%, 50%, 43%). Have allowed ppga in each loss.

I guess 8 days off for the all star break wasn't enough; they wanted 8 more days off, and took them.

With a ton of games in February, they really needed to get the 'easy' 2 points.

With a ton of games in February, they really needed to get the 'easy' 2 points. Not sure I would call Florida an easy 2. That is a pretty good young team. Last night, they looked like the team that was battling for first in the Conference and we looked like the team sitting around 9 or 10 that is not quite good enough to play in the postseason. So far this season, whenever they have lost 3 straight they have bounced back with a nice stretch. Hopefully they get it going again tomorrow night in Philly.

I call them "easy" because they were on their third game in 4 days, and played the night before, and starting their back-up goaltender. They should have been tired and sluggish, and instead it was the Isles. Looked like the complete opposite.

Big test for this team to break out of this mini slump against the Flyers. This is one of those games that can get them back on track, or set them into a tailspin. When they are hitting and skating, there are few in the league that have played better this year (and I'm a Rangers fan). They need to come out hitting everything that moves...set the tone.

You know, I was going to say something about Viz the other night; not looking good out there at all.
Then today-
"Visnovsky a healthy scratch tonight. Capuano: "Last time we won a game Brian was in there. He deserves it.""
Sounds like Viz is one of the players Cappy's not too happy with.
Also, Halak in net tonight.

Rangers have been playing very well the last 20-25 games.

They have. However, I feel they are still too similar to the team that ran out of gas against the much bigger Kings in the finals. They are a fast team with solid defense and great goal tending...but the playoffs is about the grind and the ability to fight through that. I think they need to get a little tougher on the forwards front (their current team is fast, but can be physically outmatched by clubs like the Bruins, Capitals, Ducks, Blues, etc.) and get at least one larger, more physical defenseman.
I think the Islanders are closer to what I'd like the Rangers to be, but without the post-season experience. I've been saying this for the last 2-3 years: watch out for the Islanders...get them some more time to develop their you forwards, and get them some physical defensemen and strong goal-tending, and they will contend for the Cup soon. My Ranger friends were giving me shit because its the Islanders, but...you can't deny that they are a force to be reckoned with if they learn how to win games and not lose them.
I've always questioned whether Capuano is the right guy to take them to the next level. I always thought he was good to get a good young team on track, but that they may need a more seasoned coach to take them over the top. I guess we'll see how things play out the rest of the year. If they get to the playoffs and win a series or two, I think he gets another chance. If they start to slide and don't make the playoffs, or they get bounced in the first series, I think they need to make a change there.
As a Rangers fan, its hard to say, but...I think the Islanders are capable of hoisting that cup in Brooklyn at some point over the next few years. That'd be a heartbreak for the diehard fans on LI. Nassau County fucked that one up big time.

Shut out by the Flyers, and boychuk out. Guess they haven't hit bottom yet.
edit: Grabo just got one.

Down 2-0 in the 2nd, Boychuk leaving with the ankle, it looked pretty bleak. Still not playing at the same level as before the break, but those are 2 badly needed points.

Hopefully, I pinpointed the exact bottom with my post above. Better be only up from here! Amazing how quickly things turned around after your post -- Two quick goals to tie the game, Boychuk returns, and we win in the shootout. This means that you need to post more during games -- but only if we are losing. Funny thing about last night's game, I thought we played our best through the first 30 minutes or so when we fell behind 2-0. Didn't like how we played in the 3rd period or OT. We seemed to lose every puck battle, had trouble possessing the puck, turned it over in our own end & tried to get a bit too fancy when we did control the puck. Happy with the W though -- after a 3-game losing streak I would rather look bad in a win than look good in a loss. Tough one coming up in Boston tomorrow night -- will need a better effort than last night to get back on track.
