TBH, I don't see them turning around how they're playing any time soon. If they make the playoffs, and that's a big if, it'll be out on 5 games max.

If we missed the playoffs and the entire coaching staff was fired would you consider that progress? I know I would. I was secretly hoping with our improved roster that they would implode early on, Cappy would be gone, and we could finally rebound with a better coaching staff and make the playoffs. The opposite has been true.
Turns out we started off hot and are now back into our November swoon. Squeaking in with a total collapse at the end will save Cappys job....and IMO that is detrimental for this franchise moving forward.
Maybe I should have started a poll, but this thread is condensed. What do you guys think? I'm willing to sacrifice the playoffs for a new coaching regime. In the end, it's all about the Cup.

I agree that if the Isles continue the collapse, then Cappy has to be gone. Garth put too much into this team in the offseason and with some of the in season moves to tolerate a collapse like this. I am not sure I would cal lit progress -- your argument is rational, but I still want my team to win. It has been so rare that we make the playoffs over the past 20 years, that I want to see my team in the playoffs and I want them to win. I will worry about the silver lining if Cappy is fired in the offseason, I am not thinking that way now. In my opinion, Cappy should be coaching to save his job right now. It is already lost, but he can win it back with a strong finish and a playoff run. Anything less, even if they back in and then lose in the first round, and I don't see how Cappy can be back.

I'm willing to take the dagger and miss the playoffs if Cappy and this staff is fired. IMO that is the only way the new ownership can force Garths hand. We make the playoffs and get bumped in a few games and Cappy is secured for the future and that will set us even further back. We're still a couple of years away even with this roster as the defensemen mature and we're not playing the likes of Hickey, Strait, and Donovan. I always want too win.......but for the greater good, maybe losing is better. We will NEVER win a cup with Cappy, so I'm willing too jump on the sword, as painful as it might be.

I've heard the argument that "how can it be Cappy's fault when the top 5 or 6 players aren't performing?" And I'd say to that "Cappy certainly isn't helping."
There's just not enough games left to pull out of a tailspin like this.

I get the logic of the argument and if a total collapse means Cappy losing his job, then I get that as a positive and I may look back in the offseason and say it was for the best. But right now, I want them to win. I want them to turn it around, start to play well and have a decent playoff run. Unlikely after the last month, but I am starved for playoff hockey. This may be crazy with two weeks left in the season, but if you are going to fire Cappy, just can his ass now. Let Weight or Cronin act as interim. The team has collapsed, best case scenario, they limp into the playoffs. They have not won a game at home in March. All the excitement and the buzz that they generated early in the season is gone. Try to shake things up and salvage the season. If they lose today to Detroit, just fire his ass. No need to wait. If they miss the playoffs, this scenario has been floating around in my mind. What are the chances they win the draft lottery and lose out on McDavid or Eichel because of the Vanek trade last season. Would be typical Islander luck. It sucks to even be talking about this. images2_zpsf1aa2a2d

The isled have 6 games left. Wings, Jackets (twice), Sabres, Flyers and Pens. If they don't make the playoffs, I will burn my Yes, Yes Yes t-shirt.
As bad as they have played lately, I just don't see that happening.

Haven't seen the game, but Halak having a bad night? Or just impossible to stop? 3 goals on 9 shots.

Haven't seen the game, but Halak having a bad night? Or just impossible to stop? 3 goals on 9 shots. Pretty much one of everything we have been seeing over the past month. Sloppy play in their own end. First goal -- Halak gave up a rebound on a long shot he should have controlled. Second goal -- bad bounce, kind of a bad break, puck bounced up in the air and into net behind Halak Third goal -- failed clearing attempt. Turned the puck over at the blue line, Kronwall walked into the slot and beat Halak. Bad rebound, bad bounce, bad clear. At least we got some offense and are getting guys to the net today so it is still a game. Wild opening 10 minutes. Wow. Isles just got another one. 4-3. 3rd power play goal.

The power play has been downright blazingly pathetic lately. Amazed they got 3 PPG.

It's killing me missing all of these games. I know my brother has an unhealthy hatred of Kennedy and Cappy continuing to play these bums when better players are healthy scratches.

Wild game. 2 huge points. Halak may not have been at his best tonight, but he played really well in the final 10 minutes. Wings had some great opportunities but Halak was huge. RobR -- no reason to miss games when you are on the road. Thats what sports bars are for. I have spent more nights than I care to count while travelling nursing a beer in a sports bar watching one of my teams. Edit: Ottawa just lost. 9 points up on the 8 spot. Still hope Cappy gets fired, but feeling a bit better after today's games.

Believe it or not but Albuquerque is a basketball town first and foremost, football/baseball town second, insert another sport here third........then a hockey town. They just don't give a shit about hockey and most bars don't televise it because no one is interested in the sport in this part of the country. Thanks god for directtv. But damn is the food good in this part of the country.
