1.5M a year for 2 yrs for a backup goalie, not bad. Agreed. And also Hickey at $2.2 is not too bad either. 3 years is way too long for Hickey and 2.2 is too much. I'm hoping he is relegated to a game day scratch towards the end of the season.

I think it is a reasonable contract for a 3rd pair defenseman. Probably would have been more comfortable with 2 years instead of 3, but I don't see it as a bad signing. If the young guys step up, we can always flip him for a pick at some point in the future -- salary does not preclude a trade.

He should be a #7 that fills in for injuries and hopefully he never plays more than 25-30 games a year. If his signing turns into my biggest gripe this offseason I'll be happy. So far I've been impressed by the draft and the GR trade, liked the Greiss signing and am intrigued as hell with the Petrov signing. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts with the big club right from the beginning and makes an impact....dude is 25yo now.

Question now, especially with Petrov on board... can they / will they trade a F (Grabner for instance?)
Tavares, John Grabovski, Mikhail Kulemin, Nikolai Lee, Anders Bailey, Josh Grabner, Michael Okposo, Kyle Clutterbuck, Cal Nielsen, Frans Strome, Ryan Cizikas, Casey Martin, Matt Petrov, Kirill Nelson, Brock
There's 14 right there...

I'm assuming Grabner is gone because Cappy hates him and his lingering groin injury. I'd rather see Bailey moved when his stock is high but I doubt that happens. Still a very solid group of forwards with some nice prospects in the pipeline.

Also still hearing rumblings of a potential Okposo deal -- Minnesota and St Louis have been mentioned as possibilities.

Agreed, very good group of forwards, with, after the GR trade, four good prospects in the pipeline, who will be ready in waves, so this should be sustainable and cap friendly.
I heard the KO rumors yesterday too, and that they were in on Sharp, then out, then maybe in on Oshie. I get the feeling Garth would like to add another F, and moving Grabner, KO, or both would be the way they make cap room for that.

Hopefully we stay away from Sharp. 33 years old coming off of a down year. No thanks. Another name I have seen thrown out (not in relation to the Isles) is Kevin Shattenkirk -- would give us a real solid top 4.

And with Petrov, it sounds like he's here for the NHL club or bust. The guys 25, and I believe took a pay cut to come here? I dont see him in the AHL for any appreciable length of time if at all.
