Another one goal win. Great play by Hickey & Zeeker on the game winner. Where would this team be without the production from the 4th line, hopefully Clutterbuck is not down for too long. I only caught the last ten minutes of the game, so I can't really comment on Reinhart, but holding the Sens to 21 shots, and their only goal coming on a 5 on 3, the depleted defense must have done something right.

I only caught part of the game too, but what I saw of Reinhart, he looked, well, capable. No mistakes, nothing outstanding, but I think thats a fair expectation of his game in the NHL at this point. I think it was Howie who said if you're not hearing his name much tonight, hes doing his job.

I saw most of the game. TBH, there wasn't anyone who stood out. On either team. It was, really, a very unexciting game. Don't get me wrong, it was exciting that they won, but the tempo of the game just seemed, I dunno, sluggish?
Not sure if that makes any sense. Put it this way - If I was a casual hockey fan, and watched that game, I'd be like "Wow that was really boring." There are amazing 2-1 wins with spectacular saves and crazy shots. This was not one of them.

Put it this way - If I was a casual hockey fan, and watched that game, I'd be like "Wow that was really boring." There are amazing 2-1 wins with spectacular saves and crazy shots. This was not one of them. Agreed - it was pretty boring game. But, that's also in comparison to the rest of the Isles games this season which usually feature some exciting hockey. When this team wants to skate, they are really great to watch.
I can't help but wonder if the fact that the Dmen were out affected the offense more than anything? The breakouts out of the zone weren't really there like they usually are. But the defense in general was pretty solid. Even the one goal they gave up on the 5 on 3 should have been handled by Halak.
But games like this will happen. The fact that they came away from it with a win is a boon. And its one more game of experience for Griff, which is helpful. Grabner didn't do anything great except for that one play where he showed his jets (great) and his hands of stone (not so great).
I don't think Hamonic/Viz/Boychuk are out for long term but its nice to see that our 7/8/9 dmen can step in and play competently when needed. There are a lot of teams with injuries right now - the Islanders aren't alone. But they are alone in the fact that they've been able to plug in guys and not really miss a beat.
And how about Hickey? Other than the play at the end of the game where he had the opportunity to clear it and instead decided to just pin it against the boards, he played a great game. Would love to see him paired with Griff from a big/small perspective as well as Hickey is a good partner for a young guy to have. He's pretty smooth and under control. I used to think that he was easily the guy to be replaced once Griff and Pulock are mature, but now he's making that decision very difficult. Good problem to have.

Arthur Staple @stapenewsday 10m10 minutes ago Travis Hamonic on IR. Ryan Pulock will be joining the #Isles tomorrow.
Tough stretch of games ahead (Wild x2, Blues, Hawks) - while down 3 D-men. Looking forward to seeing what Pulock does, I would guess it will be either him or Reinhart in the lineup dependin on the matchup.

See what happens when you get old and try to rely on memory without checking the schedule. You made me have to go check the schedule to make sure I didn't see it wrong last night!

That's not good. If we go 2-2, I'll take it.

I heard that too about Hammer and Boychuk -- not good at all. Also hearing rumors of a possible trade of Reinhart to the Oilers for Jordan Eberle -- don't know if there is any truth to it -- not sure why we would trade Griff for another center when we are so banged up on the blueline. www.hngn.com/articles/51888/20141205/nhl-rumors-islanders-oilers-talking-trade-jordan-eberle-and-griffin-reinhart-part-of-the-deal.htm

That is terrible news, fuckin terrible. The only muscle we have on the blueline out for an extended period of time is a kick in the nuts.

I read about the trade rumors earlier and I hope they are just that.....rumors, considering how hard it is to find Dmen. We're finally building depth in the back-end and now three of our top four guys are out. That trade rumor makes absolutely no sense from an Islanders standpoint.

I guess we should have expected that they would have one shitty performance after the way the season started -- not going to win every night. Very disappointing game. I do not want to see Brian Strait out there again. Ever. And we are going to have to get the PK fixed. Awfully tough to consistently beat good teams when you can't kill penalties.

Having all of our Dmen out this was almost expected against a top team like the Blues. We need to get healthy......and fast.
