It's a painful reminder every year how us fans that don't know shit could easily draft better than this franchise. The best part is when the know nothings come in to defend the picks only too change course a few years later. Look, one of the great things about this place is that we have pretty strong opinions about the players we love and hate, and give plenty of support to our opinions. We also state all of this BEFORE the draft, so when I say "I told you so" about a guy like Pryor for example, there is a ton of pre draft posts supporting our point. I've perused the other boards in the past and this one is by far the best. We were talking about Carson Wentz during the first game of his last college season...we were talking about Cook when he was a freshman. I'm already talking about Ed Oliver and he's a true freshman. I trust the regulars here more than any Walter football site that changes by the day. We just need some more arguments and disagreements because all of us have our winners and losers. But like you said, we put our ass on the line early and have earned our reputations.

The FML pick is going to be Reuben Foster. Macc will go out and say he was the most talented guy on the board and some of us will start to rationalize the selection and say that he is the next Patrick Willis blah blah blah.
I feel like collectively we gave a pretty honest assessment of last year's draft after it ended. The general consensus was that the first 2 rounds were shaky, but that the team drafted well after that. Lee was promising but not impactful, Hackenberg was in detention, but it appears we may have some promising starters down the road in Jenkins, Burris, Shell and Anderson.
Looking back, I have no idea who we should have picked in round 1. None of the guys I was targeting were available. I liked William Jackson, but he was out for the year. Paxton Lynch didn't look too hot this year in limited action, but he was expected to take some time, so that is ok.
In the second round, I wanted Mackensie Alexander. He was pretty bad this year according to Pro Football Focus.

If we take Lynch out of the equation, there was literally no one left to pick last year when we selected. All the consolation prizes were off the board; Corey Coleman, T. Decker, Floyd, Ryan Kelly, etc. Myles Jack would have been a better decision IMO.

If they fall in love with Trubisky and he's there at 6 I could see them pulling the trigger. Really hope they don't pull the trigger on Watson. _ I hope they don't pull the trigger on Trubisky either.... his throws are behind receivers and I just don't like the way he looks.

The smartest thing to do is trade down and get more pics. Three of the four teams still in the playoffs don't have franchise backs. What did Buffalo and the Rams do with Gurley and McCoy. It's all about defense, the QB, and OL.

@ years ago the best player available was the top rated player on just about every pro or amateur scout's draft board . We either had to trade out or take the player . We took the player, but one could argue that had he not been there, the BPA might have been Gurley . We will never know .
Last year we had a whole bunch of nothing to choose from and after trying to trade up for a QB and then an OT, we took what they believe was the BPA with need as a factor . The need was for increase speed in the Line backing core .
This year, the BPA(Cook) could be a RB, but that player might have some concerns medically . I think the pick will be on the offense, and I still think it's either going to be an OT, the RB or a QB .

I hate to bust your bubble but it's probably a 90% chance we go defense again. You know.....BPA and all. Either a CB or ILB. Fournette seems to be sitting right at the intersection of BPA and Need streets. Mike Williams is about the only name I pause to mull over if both are available at 6. But the Jets taking a WR at 6 might signal the end of the universe.

Fournette would be a classic Macc BPA pick. So not sure why anyone is freaking out that they Jets brass will pas on him if he is there.
I will post a thread on this. BUT- I believe the best NFL CB to come out of this draft will be S.Jones out of Washington.
I think the Jets need to cut Revis and draft S.Jones.
I know 6 is considered high for him. I would love a trade down scenario where we get S.Jones and add draft picks.
But the need is there (our secondary was horrendous last year, and it was not jut b/c of the safety play, it was b/c our CBs were beat a like drum on every play. The value is there- easily the most skilled CB in the draft. Playmaker. NFL ready. Great leader. Great athlete.
S.Jones has VERY few weaknesses. His biggest knock is his lack of ideal size and strength for an NFL CB. But he is 6'0 180 and played on fully capable of playing on the outside. Its an overstated concern.
Its only a reach if the player does not pan out. If Hack ends up being a Pro Bowler, nobody will say Macc reached. People will say Macc fooled everyone and got a steal. Would you not have drafted Tom B. overall instead of the 6th round?
If the Jets 'reach' for S.Jones at 6, and the fan boo b/c we are taking another CB, becasue we are not drafting offense in the first round, because Milliner and K.Wilson were busts and somehow that correlates to this pick and this GM, Mike Williams or a QB or Fournette (who I love-btw) were on the board...I would have no problem with it b/c I have a strong feeling S.Jones will be in the Pro Bowl in year 2 or 3.

Lets say for speculation purposes that Macc does the typical asshole GM thing and says "hey! there's lots of backs to chose from" and convinces himself Forte plus random round five RB will do... And of course there's no way the Jets are taking Mike Williams in round 1. We're going for an unbeatable record of years with no first round WR picks. (2001 Santana moss is almost 20 year old record I would guess this is called the "Chrebet Effect"

Whichever CB blows up the combine is who we will take.

(2001 Santana moss is almost 20 year old record standing) So who the fck else could the Jets honestly take? I honestly don't know who the hell those meatheads in the war room could possibly prop up over Fournette. But they will. QB?... don't see it. Anyone worth their salt is going to CLE/SF/CHI Cam Robinson?... please. I'll take the cyanide pill now. More front defensive linemen? Some overrated tweeners? Help me out with some names. They're going secondary. I'm convinced of it. It's either Hooker or Adams or who ever they feel is BPA CB (maybe Tabor?). Not sure the name but they're going secondary. I've firmly landed myself in the Mike Williams camp but that wont happen because like you said, he scores points and the Jets dont draft players who score points in the 1st round.
