do you also think auto insurance should also be optional? =========================================== Auto insurance has always been optional and it remains that way. Unlike Obama Care unless your Amish like me.

I thought the Obominator had only 22 million in his plan and only 2 to 3 million were screed up? Our Aetna plan from work actually stayed the same in price and some costs went away? Has anyone here experienced any negatives? Employer plans like yours and mine didn't have much appreciable change. But I do know plenty of people whose costs did go up considerably.

As far as I know the Amish are not required to insure there buggies, nor do they have to buy Obama Care cause there religion is against it, I think American Indians are also not mandated to buy Obama Care just like congress.

That said, GFY.

Oh and when I talked about Auto Insurance should be mandatory, it was assumed that this referred to those who had some mode of personal transportation(Car, Motorcycle, etc.).
If you don't have a car/motorcycle, then of course you don't need insurance(it wouldn't make sense to buy it) but I meant mandatory for those who do have one. That's all.

Sorry.

Driving is a privilege and the Govt. can require us to pass a test to drive and mandate that we have insurance, I'm good with this. Owning a firearm is a right, and the Govt can not mandate that we have insurance on our guns. Or at least they haven't been able to yet. The Govt. should not mandate that we buy Health Ins., because unlike car insurance we can chose not to drive or own a vehicle, with Obama Care we were given no choice.

Fair enough... i thought for purposes of the discussion it was assumed we were talking about people who owned cars and drove on public roads. Either way, i agree that there shouldnt be a mandate to buy health insurance.

I'd be ok with that PROVIDED there was no mandate that doctors and hospitals have to treat everyone regardless of their ability to pay. If you choose to roll the dice and go without insurance you should have to live with the consequences.

Liberals don't believe that for a second, but: Public and private hospitals alike are prohibited by law from denying a patient care in an emergency. The Emergency Medical and Treatment Labor Act (EMTLA) passed by Congress in 1986 explicitly forbids the denial of care to indigent or uninsured patients based on a lack of ability to pay.
