So we went in for the post-op followup and review of the pathology reports and PET scan. Good and bad news. I need more surgery at the original surgical site. I will lose my deep salivary gland on my left side. The good news is that the PET scan found no other masses any where in my body. Right now I will need minimal follow up treat and then PET scans at 6 and 12 months. Then one a year for 5 years. If all come back clean I will be said to be cancer fucking free. Kicking cancers ass since 5-23-17 Great news by why do they have to remove the gland?

Sorry to hear about what you've been going through these last few weeks. I'll be hoping and praying that the next round of treatment clears everything up. You're a tough MF, I'm sure you will beat this. Stay positive (which you certainly seem to be doing) and get better soon.

He tried to get it scheduled prior and could not. I have had this for close to 6 months so he was very concerned about where it might have spread. He said if I did not ignore and then have it treated like it was a cyst for 4 months or so then he would have waited.

The cut will come down in front of my left ear. bend under the ear lobe then rejoin the previous incision. He will then reopen 4 inches and pull the flap of skin toward my chin. The he works his magic and cuts the last known bit of this shit out of me. It is another night in the hospital though. There is almost nothing worse than that.

I'm nowhere near an expert on cancer but I'm guessing that if I had the choice between finding out I needed one more surgery in the same area or finding out the cancer had spread to other places I would take the former. I'd gladly sacrifice a salivary gland for being cancer free everywhere else. Good luck my man. We're all sending positive vibes for you! (No, not those kinds of vibes. Well....maybe.)

I'm just seeing this thread. First of all, Hapy Father's Day tkasper. In your battle with cancer, you exemplify what being a dad is all about. Courage, steadiness, and a rock for your family in the face of tough times.
Second, I'm not much familiar with a good diagnosis vs a bad one(if there is a good one), but the most recent follow up sounded like positive long term news. Keep fighting. You will win.

Things are going well. Just had my 3rd treatment this morning. So far no side affects. I need to get a CAT scan in the next week or so. If the little remaining cancer is getting smaller we will continue with the stage 4 trial drug I am on. It shrunk a walnut sized, inoperable, brain tumor to were it does not even show up on a PET scan. I am optimistic. Scars healed nicely. I found out we have cancer insurance so this is not even costing me a penny. Just got a check last week for 4775.00 to cover the copay's/deductibles and scan copay's. So life really is good. I am working on a Harvey relief trip in the first week of Oct. I may have to rent a box truck with the amount of stuff being dropped off and pledged. Good problem to have. There is a place in Allen TX that will accept them. We will then spend a few days volunteering to help them sort and pack up all the donations they have to get them ready to go to Houston. Thanks for asking.
