That's a very difficult situation whether that someone is armed or not armed. If a bad guy has the element of surprise your gun isn't really going to help you. What a stupid f__king argument... How many shootouts have you been involved in since you have been carrying a gun? How many times have you had to point your gun at a threat? You have no idea how you would or wouldn't react.

While I'm at it, I don't think I'll carry while hiking through Grizzly country either. After all, A Grizzly will probably just surprise me......

Must have guns for gun enthusiast.
Shotgun, 12 guage Rifle, in a suitable caliber for taking large game. .22 caliber rifle. Just so damn much fun on the cheap.
Then if your into handguns
.22, in semi or revolver 9mm in semi or revolver. Should have at least one semi auto and one revolver.

Why I own guns.
Because I can. Heirlooms, 8 of my 13 guns were given to me by deceased family members, I consider myself a care taker of these guns and will someday give them all to my son, and then he to his son. I like the aesthetics, The looks/engineering/machining/fitting/finish of a well made gun. Mostly what I do with my guns is look at them and fondle them. Target shooting. Something about the bang and putting holes in things. Hunting, I don't get to hunt often anymore, but it's heaven on earth to be in a field with a good dog and a shotgun. Protection for my wife when I'm out of town.

Just like everything else bad people will find a way to get what they want so why penalize the good?

Just like everything else bad people will find a way to get what they want so why penalize the good? By that logic why criminalize anything?

I'm not saying there shouldn't be laws and deterrents people should be held accountable just not at the expense of the minority, especially when addressing self defense and or protection.

A minority of society are criminals or "bad people" so I'm not sure how that standard delineates between the laws you think are appropriate and those that are not.
