By that logic why criminalize anything? Because laws can be a deterrent. If blow was legal more people would be doing it. So if it's illegal for a felon to own a gun then fewer felons will own a gun?

If a felon wants a gun then he/she/it is going to obtain a gun by any means necessary (unlawfully). But laws do prevent sales of weapons to felons by law-abiding firearms dealers.

Are all gun guys here still against background checks? ========================================= Not sure what you mean by "still"? But I have never known a world with out FFL background checks since the Gun Control act of 1968 went into effect when I was 7 years old. So I guess I would have to say I am cool with the background check system.

Are all gun guys here still against background checks? Was never against them. But that opportunity was blown by Barry and Plugs when they tried to shoot for the moon and basically said everyone that doesn't agree with them is stupid and unreasonable.

A lot of average Joe gun owners that I know have no problem with reasonable background checks. But its easier I guess to say all gun owners are against them.

I think background checks are a good thing. Not sure how sharing mental health information will work with HIPA laws. For this one will they just give local law enforcement the number for the ATF and Holder's personal cell number?

How does the saying go? Its not what you say, it is how you say it. All they did was point fingers and assign blame. That plan included a ban on the popular AR15 and had a 10 round mag limit. That is what killed it. What is the definition of "military style"? What is an "assault weapon"? We discussed this ad nauseam on JI so there is no point in rehashing.
