Yeah I was using "we" to mean them. We better figure out what we can stomach. Obviously nation-building doesn't work. And we wring our hands over drone strikes and selected bombings. We want perfection in a messy world. Taliban in Afghanistan was harboring Bin Laden and they were definitely supporting other terror organizations. It made sense to wipe them out, especially right after they were tied to 9/11. Staying was the mistake. Somehow we allow atrocities to happen in many other countries with out a thought. Uyghar concentration camps are not as important as Nikes/Disney. People starving at the hands of their governments in Venezuela and Cuba among many others, oh well. We helped topple Gadhafi and they created a huge slave trade, "We came, we saw, he died", tee hee. Lets worry about America instead of policing the world and crush them economically. Agreed but also to your point on intelligence, we're still going to have to make targeted strikes to those intent on making terrorist attacks on us. We're not going to be able to stop terrorism economically.

Did you want to protect them? Lets be honest, all this has zero to do with them. Or the Taliban. Or $$$ weapons. It's the American psyche that can't handle the fact that we lost. We hate losing and we're on a bad streak. Most Americans couldn't find Afghanistan on a map and have no idea why we went in there to start. It's the simple fact that we got beat by a bunch of towel heads. And we love a scape goat. 20 years it went on but simpletons pin it on Biden because thats easy. We lost over 7,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq over 20 years. Over 30,177 service members and veterans of the post-9/11 wars have committed suicide. And we do very little to help them. We honor our dead for about 2 weeks then move open to the next big story. As a nation we don't care. We really dont. We just wan to "win." We're never gonna learn. Depends on the price. If we are being intellectually honest then allowing Afghans to live in "freedom" from the Taliban would require us to colonize them for hundreds of years. If we were able to take the oil and minerals then I might be open to it. But we know that is something that we couldn't stomach politically. So the answer is no. I disagree with that as a nation we don't learn. I think the general population has learned. The ruling class and the Pentagon havent. Or perhaps, more sinisterly, they just dont case bc those defense stocks go vroom. Yeah I was using "we" to mean them. We better figure out what we can stomach. Obviously nation-building doesn't work. And we wring our hands over drone strikes and selected bombings. We want perfection in a messy world.

I dont pretend for a second I want them. I feel terrible for them but I have come to accept that democracy doesnt work everywhere. It barely works here. And seeing what has happened in Europe over the past 6 years with their migrant programs gives me little confidence the cultures are compatible. But white guilt is very strong so here we are. As Andrew Wilkow often says, "If you bring there, here, then here, becomes there". Nation building and forcing American values is impossible. Most people, even here, aren't willing to pay for their freedom. Most people want to be told what to do, what they can do and follow orders. The founding fathers were a rare breed. Agreed.

I personally hope Americans aren't executed. But thats just me. I hope so to. I pray that they are able to find safety. But we also know the reality of the situation. And our government just left hundreds of Americans to die in a foreign hostile country. But at least we are resettling thousands of refugees. I am sure the cultural enrichment will benefit whatever towns they are sent to. Everyone loves the Afghan people, its horrible we've abandoned them! (crocodile tears) Put them in our town? Ew gross.

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed. But hey. Biden looked at his watch. This has been debunked. Of of course, anything anti-Trump is never true. He was perfect. He always listed to the secret service too. Always. Like his little Covid limo drive.

I guess one man's sarcasm is another's disrespect of a POW. McCain was a douche bag and way too liberal for my taste and he turned his POW status into a shield way too often. Was Trump's comment wrong and off color? IMO yes. That being said, if I was in politics and someone I knew, in my party, was pushing known lies about me on the national stage I might make a biting remark or 2 myself. Of course, we always forgive "our guy." Thats how this works.

“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”...Private Bone Spurs...on the record. Out loud. On tape. Oh about John McCain, yeah that was a totally different situation and Trump can be a sarcastic NYC Douche, especially about people that went after him. Like McCain did pushing Hillary's dossier of lies against Trump. I guess one man's sarcasm is another's disrespect of a POW.
