Guy got 3,000 yards and 22 TD's out of Tyler Thigpen in 11 games in KC That's a very good point untouchable. He is like an older chip Kelly/Marc trestman. I just hope he is motivated for being a coach again. He can make this offense respectable again.

Not sure I love it but...if he's with us, I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do to make us better. HC experience should be very helpful for Bowles and Co.

the more I read about it the more I like it
he seems to be very innovative on offense, his offenses always put up points on the patsies, very experienced. Good OC Bad HC. I think its the perfect hire to pair up with a first time head coach

What's all the negativity with Chan Gailey? The guy is a excellent OC. Does anybody remember how good he was as the Steelers OC? He is like Nov Turner terrible coach but a excellent OC. His offense is easy to learn and could really fix Geno if the Jets can't get a decent QB.

Shotgun spread offense with nice easy reads. Similar to what Geno did at West Virginia so I think it's a great offense for him. Harvin and Kerley are going to be great in this offense b/c it's all predicated on quick throws to guys in open space that allows for YAC. Harvin, especially, will be dangerous in this offense. Hopefully he'll restructure.

There's nothing wrong with Bowles being able to look to his right, or listen in his headset, for an experienced head coach on game day, whether or not he has been successful in that role.

We hired a personnel guy at GM, one of the hottest candidates on the market as HC so of course some people will find fault somewhere to either bash Woody or to just be able to complain about something. Classic Jets fans. A lot of people wanted Shanahan. What has he ever done as OC that is so special? At least Gailey had a journeyman QB in Fitzpatrick average 24 TD's, 3600 yards and 60% comp. Shanahan had 1 good year of RG3 and then he was not good the following couple of years at all. Then goes to Cleveland where his starter has a 55% comp, 12 tds and 13 int. At the very least Gailey has been able to develop QB's along the way compared to Shanahan.

Just look at their record the past few years. The Skins sent them packing and rightly so. Both were a disaster in DC.

Wasn't crazy about the Gailey hire initially, but I am really warming up to it. You need to disregard his failures as a HC and look at what he did as an OC. The guy has had a lot of success and he fielded competent offenses even when they had very little talent.
I actually like the fact that he has was out of football for 2 years. Even if he was sitting on his ass doing nothing, it will not take him long to "catch up" on new developments over the past 2 seasons. I mean it's football, it's not like its been re-invented in the past 2 seasons. Anyway, the fact that he was retired and is coming back means that he really wants to coach. He's rested and ready to go. Most importantly, he's at a point in his life where he doesn't give a shit what people think about him. Plus, from what I've been reading Bowles wanted Gailey as his OC wherever he ended up as HC. So, there is apparently some sort of relationship (or respect) there. You can't have a HC and a couple of Co-ordinator "young guns". You need at least one guy in the coaching leadership who's "been there, done that". There is no substitute for the wisdom gained through experience.

I'm ok with it. The only thing I don't get is how does Bowles know Gailey? Does anyone know their connection? It seemed that Gailey was who he was targeting to bring in as his OC once he knew he was going to get a HC gig. Just wondering how that came to be.

Is Gailey also part of the "Parcells coaching tree?" I know he succeeded him in Dallas...

Gailey got good offensive production out of guys like Kordell Stewart, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tyler Thigpen.
If anyone can get the most out of Geno, it's Gailey.

I know it's a major long shot but could you imagine if Geno somehow is able to put up TD/INT ratio more like what he did in college?! He had what like 57 td to 8 int?! Something like that. Everybody saying this Gailey offense is like what Geno ran in college... Do THAT
