This stupid team....we can't even win the Super Bowl Of Losing Although Im convinced TLaw would find a reason to go back to Clemson and pull a Peyton Manning just to fuck us anyway
Wish he'd fuck over the Jags and do that.

This is more than a 2021 rebuild. If JD isn't sold on the other top QBs, why not kick the can down the road for a year, fill in the rest of the weaknesses and look at QB in the next draft?
This idea I like a lot.
Especially with someone like Sewell right there for the taking.

Im not sold on keeping Darnold, but Im also gun shy after drafting him 3rd overall, that they have to hit on this #2 pick if they're not trading down. Can you say Fields or Wilson are sure things at #2? If not, why not go for the pretty much guaranteed sure thing in Sewell? Wasn't it just last offseason guys were clamoring to give Jack Conklin $14M to play RT? Draft Sewell and go with him and Becton at tackle, and sign Thuney to play guard on a four year deal. Then when Thuney is up, you have the money to pay your tackles, and hopefully you've developed some young cheap interior OL by then. Yeah - digging into Fields and Wilson doesn't make either sound like franchise-changing QBs. And I think, after QBs, the choices that probably change a franchise the most are OT and maybe WR. I wonder if we can trade down and still get Sewell - seems unlikely looking at the board. The 2009 team had such a great O-line. Made everything work better, even though our WRs were nothing special back then too.
Bah. Braylon Edwards was a nice BIG, TALL target for Butt-fumble to throw to.
Would be nice to have someone like that again *BUT* Sewell is more of a sure thing than the top WR coming out (I forget his name).

I would have to think Sewell goes no lower than 3rd to either Miami or Cincy depending on next weeks games.
Sewell is not going past #2 'cause I think Joe D is smart enough to think long-term and draft him to give us two O-Line beasts on either side.
People whining and bitching about going back to ground-and-pound : I want to fucking win games and be successful again.
We are not getting Trevor Lawrence so slinging the rock all over the place as our offense won't be possible.
Let's get back to running the football and some playaction.

You act like it's an either or proposition. We built our oline like that every team in the league would put 8 men in the box...and still wouldn't be able to stop us. Those back to back AFC championship games were a pretty good time. Nothing about what I proposed would stop JD from signing a vet QB or drafting another QB either. There isn't another surefire QB in the draft after Lawrence and we're not getting him. Take the sure thing in Sewell and go from there. It will pay dividends whoever the QB is. Yup, nothing says they cant sign a veteran "stop gap" and draft someone at QB next year.
Or they could try Morgan at QB...
Remember him? The other PROJECT QB?

I don't know who it is but the DC has done a nice job the last 2 weeks.
He better lock his doors at night because RobR and some here will be outside with Pitchforks due to his "success".

Look at home many top "can't miss" QBs have utterly failed in the NFL. Jamis Winston can't even be the #2 QB behind Brees? I still say if you put a team (especially a coach) around Darnold he would be fine for the Jets. Stafford, Goff, Mayfield, Wentz, Mariota, Bradford, Trubisky, Griffin, Bortles were all top 5 picks. If you don't build a team around them they will not be successful. Sam hasn't been protected and his WRs have been inadequate, injured or missing in action.
Then look at Tannehill. He was terrible for the Dolphins, he is really good most of the time with the Titans. Why? He has a good coach, good supporting cast and experience. Call me crazy but there are parallels between Tannehill and Darnold. How about the Titan's OC as a head coach candidate. Bring him in and ask him what he would do to make Sam improve the way Tannehill did.
Get Sewell, and some more Oline, WR help in FA or with the later picks. Improve the defense. The Jets are loaded with picks the next 2 years and have cash. Use that to lure a good coach and assistants. Part of the interview process has to be, "who do you want as a QB". Tell me why you want to keep or trade Sam and if you want to trade him who is your top target and why. Like Cowherd says below there are very few QBs that can carry a team in this era. Why would we expect Darnold to be able to do that, especially under Gase.
I think this has some relevance too.

Lawrence is surrounded by a dream team and his backup, a freshman, looked almost as good as he does. There is no reason to think if you put Lawence on this team they wouldn't "David Carr" his ass out of the league in 3 years.

But some here don't care and think Trevor is going to just step back and throw nothing but TDs every Possession or something. lol.
And the Jags O-line is GARBAGE right now so THEY could end up "David Carr'ing" his ass in the end regardless.

I only remember 2 bad plays from Sam yesterday. 1. He keeps sacking himself by running out of bounds behind the LOS instead of throwing the ball away. 2. There was one WTF throw that should have been intercepted. Otherwise I think he played well. Anything I missed? Sam is very young still and I think he can be salvaged like Tannehill was. Just need to get the right coach to help him.

It's almost as if you're supposed to build an entire team or something (And have coaches who are not a complete absolute joke of course)
