It was understood we would have taken amari cooper if he was available when we picked. In addition, it was believed we would have taken the WV wr if williams wasn't still on the board. And, we took Devin with our very next pick. Therefore, I see that as proof we needed another big time WR. Marshall and Decker aren't enough. So, this injury, if it significantly hampers Devin's progress to helping make our O dynamic and our passing game an area of strength on our team, is a huge loss and big set back for our already suspect O. It was understood. It was believed. Ok sure. Maybe by you. Most mock drafts actually had us taking a pass rusher or other defense. And if you're going to continually reference the Wv wr maybe you should at least learn his name. Kevin Fuckin' White. Sorry, but we needed another big time WR. We didnt get one (Marshall wasn't enough, yes our wrs were that bad last year) and just lost our top rookie offensive playmaker.. Our O will suffer and may be another lackluster shitty no-playmaker offense. Again. This is a big loss because I was hoping for big things from Devin this year. I hope Williams is the real deal, but we need Offensice playmakers. We took one we thought would be that guy and he's out for 6 fucking weeks. Fucking jets luck.

Damn! Seemed to really be making an impact today and got hurt making a great play from what i read! Any length of time out? Ribs usually take 3-6 weeks He won't be right this season... Broken ribs are actually better than cracked, but it's a year long injury - before you can move, twist and use your core at 100%. Expectations should be tempered for him in 2015

dom cosentino @domcosentino 27s27 seconds ago #Jets rookie Devin Smith has a punctured lung, per source. Status for Week 1 uncertain at this point.

Another source said Devin Smith's lung is only "slightly" punctured, and that he'll be OK. #Jets

wow, this is the most pessimistic view I have seen in a long time. Give up early I see huh? Losers? BEFORE training camps even starts??? hahahahaha Somebody already said it, he was at best going to be our 4th wr this year so saying he's "the key" to our upgraded wr corps is....well .....a streeeeeeetttttccccchhhhh..............the kid hopefully will be a big contributor next year. I too would have rather him not got injured so early in camp since he missed time in the mini camps and also reportedly really needed work on his route running. If he got hurt near the end of camp then he would have got the reps he needed and by the time we spring him on people there would be no tape on him outside of his college "just run past 'em" work. It would have been nice to have him in camp but we didnt "need" him. Sorry. Just between Sheldon and now this is very disappointing. Considering the fact we took Devon with out 2nd pick and nearly took a wr in the first I think the team was counting on our rookie wr being a pretty significant part of the O. That's all in jeopardy now. Now our wr corps is basically Marshall replacing Percy. Marshall is definitely better but not the gigantic overhaul and upgradr we needed. Hope Devon is a quick learner. But this loss hurts us more than u think. I was hoping he'd b a big playmaker and much needed deep threat. Our O suddenly looks pedeatrian. Once again. Same ol' same ol'. I have to disagree, disappointing? Yes but devastating no. I think you are underestimating the difference Marshal will make. He and percy arent in the same league as far as level of talent. Percy while quick was NEVER a number 1 receiver, never played a full season I believe and was more valuable on special teams and on gadget plays. Marshal is a straight up beast, fights for balls, is a true #1 and has a much more established record in the league with the stats to prove it. He is the main reason I think we will see Geno improve a bit. Marshall isnt a speed guy but he is a big threat and has to be accounted for by a defense....since we havent had anyone like that in years I'd say it is the exact opposite of same ol' , same ol'

How did we "nearly take a WR in the first"? HUH? It was understood we would have taken amari cooper if he was available when we picked. Based on his performance, skill set and potential if all things are equal you take him over a lineman. ANY team in the league with similar needs and an already established line would do the same. That isnt a jets thing, it's common sense. Kevin white while a popular idea didnt measure up to where Williams was rated so he wasnt chosen. Devin was selected in the second round because we don't know how long marshall will play and smart GM's know the picks you make today are plans for tomorrow unless they are flat out studs. Another example of this thinking is cro. He is a starter now but his contract is structured so that if Miliner or Mcdougal (younger guys) step up he can be cut next year without long term repercussions. Devin wasnt picked by accident or out of desperation, is was a part of a long term plan IMO.

Really sucks but silver lining I'm hoping that Shaq steps up and takes advantage. Lots of sleeping on him for good reason but who knows?

Seriously, he was definitely developmental and not expected to be plug and play, despite being a second rounder. Has many rough edges to smooth out now it will just take longer

Has many rough edges to smooth out now it will just take longer Definitely developmental? Our second pick? Sorry, but he was expected to contribute this year given he was taken so high. Everyone knew we needed another WR. He was it. And he is done for 6 weeks and will never catch up this year. Sorry, I think it's a big loss and will b a drag on our O. Our passing game SUCKED last year and we needed more weapons than switching out Percy for Marshall. I know Marshall is better, but we needed MORE. Should have taken a wr in rd 1. We didn't and Devon was going to b that guy. Now he's out for God knows how long on day 2 of camp. Not looking so great rite now.

I guess we still have drop machine amaro to throw to. If he ever gets on the field, cause it doesn't seem like Bowles is a fan so far.
