Pretty clear neither Geno nor Fitz is the long term answer at QB. The time to move on at the position is upon us. There will be a new QB (yet again) under center in 2016. So, who will it be, and why?
Bryce Petty - in the house already RGIII - sure to be available
With assets available to move up in the draft -- extra DB's and Coples -- should they target a player in the draft and try to trade up (if necessary) to get their man. The candidates are:
Jared Goff Conner Cook Paxton Lynch Jacoby Brissett Christian Hackenberg Carson Wentz Kevin Hogan
I'm not overly excited about any of these guys in the draft, but I do like Hackenberg more than the others. I truly hope Petty is the answer, but the team should do its due diligence on RGII. Unfortunately, I suspect RGIII has a personality that does not fit with a team concept (i.e. his teammates hate him), but he is a talented player with something to prove who could benefit from Gailey's spread O concepts.
So, for me plan A is Petty, but I would like to see him get some reps near the end of the season (unless we are in a playoff race). Plan B would be to kick the tires on RGIII. Plan C would be Hackenberg.
Or is there someone I'm missing?

Do we really have the coaching staff to develop such a young raw QB?? Such a long shot IMO.
Whoever is the top QB in the draft, go after them hard. Whatever it takes.

Petty certainly has the touch and arm. And he may even be able to work in a spread offense.
I know people talk about Geno's arm as being ok - but to me it always looks like he is heaving it when he has to go downfield. From what little I saw of Petty he seems to throw the ball pretty effortlessly.
The Jets obviously have better offensive players than they used to - but its failed to coalesce into a recognizable offensive identity. I am not sure what the power-run game of Ivory has to do with the spread passing. All of our receivers seem to be very different kinds of players/route-runners, etc. It's decent enough - but it's not well-oiled by any means. And when someone goes down, we never seem to be able to pivot to something else.....

None of those guys will be ready to play in 2016. Goff and Lynch are the only one's who project as 1st rounders but both are overrated and will likely end up in the middle part of the round. Depending on how the rest of the season plays out, Petty could be their guy moving forward.

Desperately want petty to work and be the guy goin forward. I've heard Gruden say he had the best arm talent in the 2015 QB class. Gruden compared him to Carr. After yesterday, I desperately hope Gruden is right. Also, I would note that Petty does not quite fit all of Bill Parcells requirements for determining whether to draft a QB. I only say this because our HC is clearly a Parcells guy. 1. The quarterback must be a senior. . .because you need time and maturity to develop into a good professional quarterback 2. He must be a graduate. . .because you want somebody that takes their responsibilities seriously. 3. He must be a three-year starter. . .because you want to make sure his success wasn't a fluke and to know that he has been "the guy" for a significant period of time. 4. He must have 23 wins. . .because big numbers don't mean a whole lot if you don't win. Petty was a 2 year starter with 22 wins. But, he was a Senior and did graduate. So, he's close to fitting the criteria. I wonder if Bowles looks at Petty as the potential QB of the future? If so, I am hopeful that Bowles has spent some quality time sharing pointers with Petty, like the list of QB Commandments that BP gave Tony Romo: 1. Ignore other opinions – Press or TV, agents or advisors, family or wives, friends or relatives, fans or hangers on – ignore them on matters of football, they don’t know what’s happening here. 2. Clowns can’t run a huddle – don’t forget to have fun but don’t be the class clown. Clowns and leaders don’t mix. Clowns can’t run a huddle. 3. Fat QBs can’t avoid the rush – A quarterback throws with his legs more than his arm. Squat and run. 4. Know your job cold – this is not a game without errors. Keep yours to a minimum. Study. 5. Know your own players – Who’s fast? Who can catch? Who needs encouragement? Be precise. Know your opponent. 6. Be the same guy every day – in condition. Preparing to lead. Studying your plan. A coach can’t prepare you for every eventuality. Prepare yourself and remember, impulse decisions usually equal mistakes. 7. Throwing the ball away is a good play – sacks, interceptions and fumbles are bad plays. Protect against those. 8. Learn to manage the game – personnel, play call, motions, ball handling, proper reads, accurate throws, play fakes. Clock. Clock. Clock. Don’t you ever lose track of the clock. 9. Get your team in the end zone – passing stats and TD passes are not how you’re going to be judged. Your job is to get your team in the end zone and that is how you will be judged. 10. Don’t panic – when all around you is in chaos, you must be the hand that steers the ship. If you have a panic button so will everyone else. Our ship can’t have a panic button. 11. Don’t be a celebrity QB – we don’t need any of those. We need battlefield commanders that are willing to fight it out, every day, every week and every season and lead their team to win after win after win.

He had parameters for junior quarterbacks which included 30 wins, at least one year of 3000 yds passing and at least 30 TD's.

Depending the severity of the injuries to Fitz, and Geno, as well as, the lack of talent available to bring in, the hand may be forced to bring Petty up and see how the young man performs under fire.
