I think putting in Petty or Hack right now is akin to what the Texans did to david carr back in the days...that kid never had a chance.

Dont be rediculous...we all know we need a qb...tell me something I dont know. I also know that if your novice, project, skittish QB isnt ready, you are getting burned over the top repeatedly, you have ZERO pass rush, your receivers are dropping the ball, your kickers are missing kicks, your offensive line is a swinging gate and your "top of the line" defensive line is getting minimal pressure, you have to pick and choose what you have time to work on DURING the season. Let's just be realistic, the past 40 years has nothing to do with what you have time to do THIS season. So the Jets can't multi task? We can't invest 100K in a guy to work on Hack and Pettys mechanics? A QBs mechanics and footwork are built on repetition to give the muscle memory. It has to be second nature for them. It seems to me that having them work on it for a year would embed solid fundamentals in their memory/footwork. When you wait a year now you have Hack, a year later in the off season, counting 1 pass, 1 2 3 pass 1 2 3 4 5 pass, and 1234567 pass. That should have been the first thing he worked on. If you can't throw the ball accurately, you can't be a franchise QB. Reading a defense, knowing the playbook, being a good teammate, all of it doesn't matter if you can't throw the ball accurately. How about we, as an organization, actually try to develop the most fundamental skill to being a sound QB first? Throwing the fucking football. If the guy can't do that, everything else doesn't matter. I wish more fans were level headed too... however, you still have to have some talent to work with. My argument is -- there WAS NEVER any talent with Hack. There was a fart once, 4 years ago, that smelt good. Everything since has been a huge pile of fish-shit. ITS INSANE how far people go to make excuses for Hackenburg. The guy just sucks.. There's literally a MILLION 20 year olds who are 6'3 with some talent to throw the ball. That doesn't mean they're good enough to be fucking Quarterbacks in the NFL.... Newsflash, if your QB needs so much work that he's #4 and inactive, then he fucking sucks. He sucked at Penn State, he sucks now, and I'm not willing to waste 3 fucking years so he can be OK... OK!?! That's what we're holding out hope for? You groom guys like Lynch, Wentz, Bridgewater, Carr. Not asshole losers who couldn't even win in college.

Without all the expletives because he seems like a genuinely nice kid. But 10,000 reps trying to "fix" his footwork and mechanics aren't going to make him accurate--aren't going to give him elite arm talent. He was drafted because he was big with a big arm--prototypcal NFL size and arm. He is a naturally inaccurate passer. I am hoping but I don't believe "tweaking" or "reworking" or "overhauling" his footwork and mechanics are going to make him into a 65% passer in the NFL. A .240 hitter can work and work and work but he's never going to become a .330 hitter. Hack is big with a big arm. An inaccurate ARM. Full stop. It is the MOST important thing. Besides, he's extremely stiff in the pocket and is awful against the rush which is a really bad combo. I like the kid. But I don't think we should be counting on him to be the future. Did I mention he's big? _

As a person? He's a nice young man. I think he tries his best, and isn't the one clamouring to be thought of as the next John Holmes... but that's what Mac sold us, despite a plethora of evidence to suggest otherwise. So fuck him.

The only people that defend the pick are the people that never watched him play. In the end he's a Jet, will probably preclude us from drafting a Falk, and will be just like every other 2nd round draft pick the Jets have made the last decade.

Well he made him change from taking his first step back with his right foot rather than his left foot. That will make anyone into a 53% comp QB. _

I know Paradis and RobR hated the Hack pick. I on the other hand would like to at least see what the kid can do before we throw him in the scrap pile. I'm just pissed that we aren't developing the kid properly. Who am I to tell another man where to shit?

He is an incredibly inaccurate thrower of the football which I don't believe can be fixed. Actually "fixed" assumes that it once worked but was broken. I don't think it ever worked. If he can't complete passes against air next training camp I think we need to move on. _

This fucking kid couldn't even hit open WRs in shorts. It honestly feels hopeless, and watching this season unfold gives me less hope because the people in charge are morons.

I hated Hackenberg going into the draft and my wife had to stop me from throwing the remote control when the pick was announced (I'm serious). That being said, I've literally watched every tape of his on draft breakdown (many twice). Hackenberg's biggest problem is his feet. In the shotgun or when he is under pressure, the balls is flying all over the place.
Do I think he is going to pan out? No. That being said, if you surround him with good talent and he just drills the fuck out of his mechanics in the offseason (and during the regular season), I think he can eventually be a Kerry Collins type of QB. The kid is by all accounts a hard worker and his teammates thought enough of him to name him team captain as a true sophomore. I'd like to see him be able to challenge for the starting job next year, I'm not going to waste multiple seasons grooming him.
