This is the same sort of horse-shit that was going on under Rex. If you dont understand that discipline and buying in underlies every successful program you dont belong in the coaching game. Bottom line. Unreal. Message sent. The complete wrong one. starting to think Bowles may not be the right coach for the Jets?

Regardless of whether McCown beats out both noobs or not, even if he beats them out by a LOT, he can NOT start the season. He cannot play a snap unless both noobs get injured. He just can't. We need to find out whether Hack or Petty can play. If we're not going to try to figure that out we need to lose EVERY game. And I don't mean trying to figure it out the last 5-6 games. Starting week 1. _ Bro, that's what weeks 16 and 17 are for... To see if the newbs can play or not! Not these noobs. It's weeks 1-17. _

Although he said it happens , he also fined and bench players for being late . I don't think he's saying it's ok to be late at all

I just watched part of the press conference. I was glad to hear that. Basically, every position should potentially be a competition every year. There are just some players that are so good, you basically know going in that they won't be beaten out. There are few of those players on the Jets right now. Players should come in knowing they have a chance to play and start. I thought Bowles was was wrong to say Fitz was the starter last year without competition. Granted, I think our QB position was so weak that he would have won out anyway but it should have been a competition to see if one of the kids could win the job. McCown certainly isn't a standout QB. I think he was brought in as a mentor. If he is the starter at the beginning of the season, it means that the young guys still need more work. If he finishes the season as the starter, then it likely means that Petty blows and probably Hack too. How can someone who totally sucks be a mentor? I'm not getting this not uncommon train of thought.

Smells like incompetence to me

Drafted by the Lions and was released before he played a single game. My point is that by this "not uncommon train of thought", he probably couldn't teach or mentor any players.

Bowles is a dummy ... he's moving in on Kotite as the biggest dummy ever to coach this team.

Not really a fair comparison, although I suppose we could debate on coaching being mentoring. Plus Parcells quickly found out he was on the wrong side of the ball and went on to his strength. McCown has been sucking for years and obviously is unable to learn anything. So how could he mentor on what he was unable to learn? Maybe "here's what I did and I sucked, so try not to do that." Only explanation, since we are on the subject of sucking, is that Bowels is surrounding himself with people that suck worse than him, hoping to look good in comparison. It's like hiring Ragu to teach etiquette or self control classes.
