Since most people think Bowles will just hand it to McCown...
Kimberley A. Martin @kmart_LI Bowles talking at AFC HCs Breakfast. Asked if Josh McCown will come in as starter, Todd said "it's competition."
Bowles on Hackenberg: "This year he has a chance to play and they'll be some pep in his step." #Jets

Great. Hackenburg will have some pep in his step as he throws footballs into the stands.

I just watched part of the press conference. I was glad to hear that. Basically, every position should potentially be a competition every year. There are just some players that are so good, you basically know going in that they won't be beaten out. There are few of those players on the Jets right now. Players should come in knowing they have a chance to play and start. I thought Bowles was was wrong to say Fitz was the starter last year without competition. Granted, I think our QB position was so weak that he would have won out anyway but it should have been a competition to see if one of the kids could win the job.
McCown certainly isn't a standout QB. I think he was brought in as a mentor. If he is the starter at the beginning of the season, it means that the young guys still need more work. If he finishes the season as the starter, then it likely means that Petty blows and probably Hack too.

If McCown sees the field it means we're back to square 1 in terms of searching for a QB. The fact they took him and not Cutler or Romo is encouraging.

If McCown can receive a snap without fumbling and doesn't throw the ball to the other team 3 times a game he will be our QB.

Thats what Ive felt from day 1 of signing McCown. They're setting up a competition with a veteran, but one where the bar is set so low... or at least mediocre, that if Petty and/or Hack cant beat him out, they know its draft a QB high in 2018.

Would love to hear some news about Hack's off-season workouts in So-Cal with QB Jordan Palmer. He worked out with Palmer last year and apparently his mechanics still weren't good.
Anybody hear any recent reports about him?

Regardless of whether McCown beats out both noobs or not, even if he beats them out by a LOT, he can NOT start the season.
He cannot play a snap unless both noobs get injured.
He just can't.
We need to find out whether Hack or Petty can play.
If we're not going to try to figure that out we need to lose EVERY game.
And I don't mean trying to figure it out the last 5-6 games.
Starting week 1.

Looks like Bowles is a real disciplinarian.....Lol. No wonder guys did what they wanted to. Horseshit response. Weren't the reports saying that it happened regularly? These guys are paid a shitload of money. They should be able to get their asses to work on time or be fined. I'm not talking about the guy who is always on time and has a hiccup. Rookies should never be late... period. They should be there early. Vets should always be on time but a first time late should get a verbal warning. A second time being late should be a fine. A third time should result in severe punishment. Coaches need to be respected.

If you dont understand that discipline and buying in underlies every successful program you dont belong in the coaching game. Bottom line. Unreal. Message sent. The complete wrong one.

I'm pretty surprised Sheldon is still here.
