Famed Jets hater Michael Lombardi (whose son is now on the Jets staff) is reporting some positive stuff about Hackenberg (hey, it's slow around here at this time of year):

Oh, I thought the thread was about Hack announcing that he's retiring from football.

Everyone kept holding out hope for fuckheads like Sanchez and Geno...but have already written off Hack before he's played a single meaningful snap.
Now watch him turn into our franchise QB for the next 12 years.

Is he showing more accuracy and better footwork in the offseason? What this based on? The Jets haven't had a practice since last December. Is this more pablum about how Hack says he feels he's improving? Has more confidence? Whilst wearing shirts and shells? Honestly, what the fuck had happened since last year where he never took one fucking snap until now that is "positive"? I may be a dick but I'm not an idiot. There is NOTHING that has transpired in the past week or month or 4 months that could be deemed as truly positive with respect to Hacks ability to play competently as an NFL QB. _

But no really, he's reporting nothing pretty much. All they're doing is discussing having confidence in your second year as a player. And that nobody knows anything, unless you were there at practice watching him.

Hack woke up today feeling better about himself!!! In other positive news, McCown woke up today feeling better about himself!! Which immediately made Hack feel worse about himself. _

That may be encouraging for them. But again, that doesn't mean much. Personally, I am m not optimistic about the QB situation at all. McCown won.t stay healthy. Petty, as much as I like him, certainly did not impress me and Hackenberg is the great unknown. And what is known about him, certainly doesn't make me optimistic. Now could Petty or Hack be good QBs? Sure. But neither one of them should make Jet fans feel optimistic right now. In fact, I would guess that a large majority of Jets fans are so discouraged by the current QB situation that they are hoping we tank the season. Personally, I hope either Hack or Petty or both shine in camp this year. I'll just keep my expectations very low.

I'm laughing. This completely reminds of the hysteria when Tebow did some small positive thing and it became Breaking News.

I'm willing to give Hack a chance but the Jets need to take off the training wheels after allowing him a year to sit and observe. I would prefer that they work him into games instead of just throwing him out there in game 1. As we all know, there are events and logical points in a season to get him on the field. I really hate it when I get too optimistic about the Jets, it's a personality flaw.

That's not to say he has, but it is 100% realistic for him to have made tangible improvements.

That's not to say he has, but it is 100% realistic for him to have made realistic improvements. How am I an idiot? Working out in Western PA with a QB coach and some local college players at a local high school sounds nice but it means absolutely nothing in terms of his ability to play in actual games at barely a competent level. I guess it's positive in that he hasn't gotten fat or gotten arrested at some faux gang banger concert or gotten caught driving 147 mph with a gun and kid in a car. But his biggest issue is accuracy in real game situations and folding under pressure from a live pass rush. We used to hear all the time about all the positive strides Sanchez and Geno were making in offseason or how Petty made strides playing Madden and it means squat when it comes to the games. And I loved Sanchez and I love Petty. It's crap. But I guess anything not negative news is positive. _

I'm laughing. This completely reminds of the hysteria when Tebow did some small positive thing and it became Breaking News. That was my point. Maybe they are getting reports that he is not wildly missing local college players wearing shorts and t-shirts with no pass rush. Is that really "positive"? Folks here should be seriously concerned that he couldn't even complete passes in practice last year against air. Natural throwers of the football wake up hungover, stumble out of bed and can complete 95% of their passes against air. He's what 21 or 22? He's been doing this for at least 15 years most likely. _

If you don't believe a player can can make a serious improvements by fixing basic fundamental flaws in their mechanics, then yes, I think that's basically idiotic. Now if you are saying that it isn't true and he hasn't really improved, then that isn't an issue for me. Believe what you want to believe. He most certainly could have made serious improvements in his mechanics or footwork in 4 months, which definitely could translate to the field.
