Negative points for having a weird name. Also, how does one go from an outstanding rookie year, to a nice follow up year, into slowly declining into sucking? Pettine is a douche, I'll give him credit for that. Never seen the guy play so I don't know much about him. But in terms of the guys you're throwing out, I'm gonna say no to all of them because I hate the 34 defense. I don't think it works in today's NFL at all. I think it only worked because there were a few teams that drafted really big, talented tweeners before tweeners were a thing and it panned out for those few teams. Everyone else is copy catting a system that leaves the middle exposed for giant runs (sound familiar) and the offensive coaches have figured out how to cope with not knowing which LB is going to "surprise" them with a rush. We need to draft a cover LB to compliment Harris and Davis and try out Coples at DE. Harris is the slow, run diagnosing thumper. Davis is the guy that has some speed, marginal cover skills, and can play the run. We need a guy that has exceptional cover skills in order to span the gamut.

> talks about sacks when a guy is playing out of position at OLB > doesn't want to talk about sacks when guys are playing DT
Kek. That guy is all about taking stats out of context when they suit his needs and then wants to bitch about someone else playing his own game.

No, he's not basically. He's engaging in a discussion. You walked into the thread with this: Barely showed anything. Wasted draft pick. Let him walk. That kind of dickish presentation gets handled as such. The fuck kind of replies did you expect? At what point did I not engage in the discussion? Hell, you even called it a diatribe which means there had to be some sort of passionate wordy display, no? And I only was a dick once McGinley acted like a pussy when he was the one quoting me. And then you coming out talking shit, probably because you're chummy with McGinley, so I'll be a dick to you as well. Actually I wasn't even being a dick to you. I asked you what you judged your ceiling on because you made a ludicrous statement (which I didn't even call you out on) that Coples has a higher upside than Mo and Richardson. Certainly it can't be based on his sack totals or his play on the field but merely that he has more PERCEIVED athletic ability than the others. You however didn't like that I said that and got aggressive and then someone below me posted the EXACT same statement: That your idea of paying him based on what you are hoping he may become is what gets GMs fired. So flame on. I'm man enough to handle it without crying about it and ignoring people. In the end I don't even give a shit either about any of this attacking towards me. You guys take this shit way too personally/seriously. It's just a message board where people can express their opinions. I have kids and a wife. My life is over, this is all I have. And I don't know who McGinley is, but if it's who i think it is, then I don't like him. he's an e-hipster.

> Passive aggressive posts with people > Completely misses the point that Coples played as a pass rushing OLB and DE while Wilkerson and Richardson are interior lineman. Probably doesn't understand so this is pointless anyway.

You may still get your wish as he's a FA. A free agent with 10 sacks a season for two years in Buffalo, 1 sack in 3 years in Indy.... and he's only 6'2 258.... I've got a couple red flags going off right now (over paid in FA, small, how can you suck for 3 years and all the sudden start playing well for the last 2... inconsistency probably returns with new found wealth). Sigh, i don't have the energy to ramp up again, but you answered your own argument against Coples. It's a near parallel situation. Hughes was shoehorned into a role that didn't fit him in IND, went to BUF where he was used appropriately and looked like the guy he was drafted to be. That's my argument for Coples moving forward. Beyond that, it's a matter of how much do you believe in him. etc etc.

First of all, you shouldn't be interjecting 3-4 into the discussion as you'd be misrepresenting me there. I believe Hughes , who has shown flashes in a 4-3 and Sheard would do the same and my best assumption today is we'll be running a 4-3 under Quinn. And we all know he's our next coach. As for Sheard sucking, I'd point to signing Kruger and drafting Mingo unnecessarily (in perfect Browns fashion) which took all his snaps away. He didn't just lose it. He's a violent player who plays the run quite well also.

If he plays well then talk about the new contract in the offseason. I'm not picking up that option though unless it can be done after the 2015 season has played out and he showed a double digit sack season along with being a disruptive force in the trenches. Right now I think he's the beneficiary of playing next to Wilkerson and a double teamed Richardson. In those circumstances I feel like he should have had a better season in general but we'll see one way or the other. If we do indeed get a quality scout guy in charge at GM then I'll leave it up to that guy (figuratively speaking of course) as to whether Coples is worthwhile.

I'd rather trot out someone that's proven it at 43 DE to be honest, whether that means drafting a player or picking one up via FA rather than hoping a player can make the transition. It seems like we're always trying to find a diamond in the rough due to never being good enough at scouting to find those players. Sheard I was curious about because I noticed his game starts were really low so he was basically benched. Figured they drafted someone or brought someone in. You're not going to find me ever watching a Browns game so I really don't know shit about the guy.

They lined him up with his hand in the dirt plenty enough. 5 sacks on a good year? No thanks. Move on. He's clearly never going to achieve his potential. And if he did achieve his potential, the Jets wouldn't be able to keep him, Wilkerson and Richardson. Not enough money to go around to pay all three guys. You can't have superstars everywhere. Bruce Irvin was drafted before Coples, is more of a pure passrusher, and has the exact same amount of career sacks as QC. He's inexpensive (for now), solid if not spectacular, and potential playmaker in the right scheme. Why dump him now, to replace him with...? no brainer of no brainers

Coples isn't a good OLB. He isn't a good defensive lineman either. His ceiling is career backup. That's my opinion. You might not like it but can you really tell me I'm completely wrong either? Justify your position of saying I'm wrong. He's inconsistent. He rarely makes a play by himself (always the second man on the QB). He's shown really questionable instincts (questionable because I'm questioning whether he has any at all). I don't see how that's a useful player. I get that he has a role but that's not the role I'd expect at all with the 16th overall pick and that's why he's a bust. He's a bust because he failed to reach his potential as a player. He doesn't have the passion. He was a guy that got by on his raw talent until his Sr year when he was exposed against better competition. That should have been a red flag for the Jets especially since they were coming off the heels of Vernon Gholston. I'm not saying he's useless. He's a career backup. He is certainly not a guy that can affect a game. In fact I've never seen him make a single game changing tackle, sack, INT, fumble, nada. Refresh my memory if there is one. I love how you criticized that other dude about bullying and that's all you do lol. And honestly after making a comment like that I have to question if you have any football knowledge what so ever. How about that 4th and 1 he stopped against the Pats when they tried a reverse and he stayed home and tackled the guy for a 3 yard loss. That was a big play. The dude has played in the league 3 years and he has 16.5 sacks. Seriously one of the dumbest posts in the history of this new board. I'm not saying he's worth $8 million per year but to say at best he's a career backup shows your total lack of football knowledge.

We don't really disagree there. I don't think he can play OLB. He's semi serviceable there, but it's doing him a disservice by putting him there. We drafted Richardson, because we felt he was the best available player which was true. Also Rex worked Coples out at OLB before the draft and thought he could be the next Adalius Thomas. He was obviously wrong about that. Now we're stuck with Coples at OLB, because Richardson and Wilkerson are bonafide studs, and he's better than our OLBs. It's obvious to everyone he'd be better off playing DE/DT in a 4-3. Also saying he lost his spot to some of the best players in the NFL at their positions just shows the type of talent we have on our Dline. A lot of players would lose their starting spots to Richardson, Wilkerson, and Harrison. Which is really my position in the whole argument. I personally think the guy has shown all that he's going to show. I would be very curious, in fact I'm hoping, to see the new coach switch this team FINALLY towards the personnel that we have on the defensive side of the ball, which is a 43 defense. We never had what the Steelers or the Ravens had at LB. Those guys were very rare which is why they dominated on defense for all those years. Unfortunately you get coaches that coach their system and not the players. At least Rex put us in multiple fronts but in the end, this team is built on defense as a 43 defense based on talent. I'd like to see Coples on one side and Wilk on the other with Snacks and Richardson in the middle. David Harris, if he's still here, would be a good MLB. Davis could play MLB too but if Harris is still around I like his ability to diagnose the play better than Davis and I want to see Davis playing the traditional Sam Linebacker role. Then you'll see whether Coples really can be anything. But it's not worth paying him 8 million guaranteed before you find that out either. And honestly, he's already played that position many times here as well. To pretend that he didn't put his hand in the dirt and rush from the outside would be in denial. Rex put him there a lot more than people are willing to admit. So Coples is a career backup at best but you would like to see him start next year at DE opposite Wilkerson? And in a 4-3 Wilkerson will be inside with Richardson. Harrison is not a 4-3 DT so if we move to that the Jets shouldn't waste their money on him. You sat here and wrote about how we have 4-3 personnel but failed to mention that Harrison isn't a fit in a 4-3. Harris can't play ILB in a 4-3 either b/c in a 4-3 the MLB has to go sideline to sideline, Harris is too old and slow. Davis would be a perfect MLB in a 4-3.

Man, you really got me with that jacking off gif. Unless that means you're jacking off to my posts which I find extremely disturbing.
Listen here you dense fuck, I said as of now Coples is a 1st round bust with 5th round production. Averaging 5 sacks a year, oh boy. For a guy that started every game since he's come into the league as a pass rusher that's so impressive that if you ever call him for what he is it makes you really stupid. Ewww, scary mean words.
Put him at 43 DE and see if there's anything at all the guy might be able to do. Even though he's already lined up there many times in Rex's defense. Because there's nothing available that's worth the price. And Coples isn't worth 8 million a year.
So grace me with your eternal spring of knowledge, you know the same stuff that bubbles forth such gems as "MLB's need to run sideline to sideline", why doesn't Harrison fit the 43 DT role?
Actually I don't give a fuck because your attempt to try and tell me I don't know shit, aka "football knowledge", makes you the very embodiment of a pfailstripper.... you know the type of people we make fun of.
It's a fucking message board you douche. Don't like the opinion? Big fucking deal. But let's not sit here and pretend you know more about football than anyone on here especially with such amazing commonalities as "MLB's have to run sideline to sideline" and "Harrison can't play in a 43 because I said so without any idea of what the fuck I'm talking about."

And before you come up with some lame ass response let me just break this down into two points for your peanut brain filled with an expanse of football knowledge:
1. I don't give a fuck what you think, especially about me. 2. I think Coples is a bust, he should have never been drafted by us, and I think that 16.5 career sacks in 3 full seasons as a pass rusher designates someone as a JAG who most certainly isn't worth his 5th year option let alone paying him 2M a year.
Now that we got that out of the way...
