Well, this year I got my very own bottle of this divine goodness: I am green with envy. My scotch and cigars buddy got a Macallum 18 for Christmas. We're going to crack it open this weekend for wildcard saturday. I got a bottle of Macallan 18 as well. Unfortunately for me I am on call and cannot crack it open until the 5th. Killing me just looking at the box.

Nice!!! Jura is tough to come across here in the US from what I've seen. I've never even heard of the first one. What's it like?

I have to admit I bought it cuz I liked the name and packaging. i gave to my dad for Xmas. I found a local supermarket (prolly a sort of Trader Joe's for you) with a huge whisky section. Gonna be trying a lot of new stuff. Admittedly I'm a newb in whisky. I had a beer phase where I was trying tons of different beers but now whisky's taken over. I'm trying to narrow down my tastes between Speysides, isles...etc. The Jura is excellent. Very smooth with a smidge of peat.

I could brush my teeth with Islay...

So does anyone ever just chill out and get fucking hammered on a $30 bottle of J&B around here?
You guys must either be fucking loaded or little pussy "sippers" to drink this $100+ a bottle hooch all the time.
Either way, I'm skeptical of your blue collar "hampur" credentials.

I don't drink scotch to get drunk (usually) - mainly its an enjoyable experience, good way to relax, love the taste, varieties, subtleties. If I want to get drunk I'll drink beer or other liquor, scotch is for me-time or special occasions. Usually aim to buy a bottle a month, anywhere from $50-100. Pretty sure I only ever bought one bottle over $100 and stretched that out for an extra couple of weeks. Basically, "Whisky is liquid sunshine"

If I want something that tastes good, then I'll reach for a Coke or a Dr. Pepper. Now, I won't drink any kind of god awful, super bottom shelf shit...but I've personally never understood why a lot of snobs act like Budweiser is some kind of undrinkable piss or how some think that Jim Beam, Jack Daniels or J&B is some kind of horrible shit that they wouldn't even an eye at.

I hear you - I mean I drink my fair share of pretty much anything and everything - Budweiser, even shit like Keystone or Hamms or Natty when the time is 'right' and I'm just trying to have a good time and get drunk or save money at the bar. That said, its different than drinking a high quality IPA or craft beer - it's just a better taste and experience IMO, legitimately enjoyable. At the same time I'm not gonna play drinking games with an IPA, pound shots of scotch or slam cocktails of mezcal or whatever the fancy shit is nowadays. Apples and oranges. You definitely can drink alcohol for taste, I'm doing it right now, but there's a time and place.

Fair enough I'm not proud of it, but I usually knock back a 12 pack about 4-5 times a week on average. So running out and buying $30 12 packs of "craft beer" isn't much of an option, unless I want to seriously cut back on the coke & whores budget. Which isn't happening... At all

Craft beer and high end spirits aren't designed for drinking in mass quantity. They are manufactured primarily for taste although we're not going to pretend like the alcohol isn't a relevant factor. The products you mentioned are designed for mass quantity consumption and primarily as an alcohol delivery medium. If you don't enjoy the taste of beer or spirits then it wouldn't make sense for you to buy these products at premium prices. You should drink what you like or at least whatever gets you to where you want to be. Part of the attitude about the products you mentioned is snobbery. Some of it is just preference. I have drank my fair share of Bud in the past but it is a rare day when I drink one now. There is just too many other good beers out there I would rather drink but I don't look down on other people for drinking what they like. I have always found Jack Daniels disgusting. I'd rather drink a bottom of the shelf $5 bottle of rotgut but I don't begrudge other people for liking it. It's just not my preference.

Jcappy and Rex pretty much summed it up for me. I'll add that if I'm "slumming it" my drink of choice is Dewar's. And at 46 years old, I rarely if ever drink to "get hammered"; the buzz from drinking a few scotches while socializing or just chilling is plenty. If that's your thing, so be it, but it really isn't for me. Far from loaded, but the scotch indulgence is one of my very few. I love watches but haven't bought a new one in years; really getting into cycling, will probably buy a new bike soon, my first in 3+ years. Beyond that, there's really little I spend money on outside the norm. That said, the amount you say you drink in beer every week is equivalent to me buying 2 bottles of ~$100 scotch every month, give or take. And not trying to be judgy in the least, but that's a lot of beer consumption per week. Everything I've learned in school and see at work has made me have a new-found respect for my liver and alcohol consumption, so I would ask that you consider tapering off somewhat and maybe drinking for enjoyment in lower quantities instead of in excess so as to get inebriated. Liver failure is one of the top 2 or 3 worst ways I've seen people go, in many ways worse than some cancers. Again, just a friendly PSA, nothing more.

Does anybody know why they discontinued green label. Was it as simple as just sales were that bad ? I always thought for the money it was a pretty smooth drink, have 3 bottles stashed.

My guess was that the sales weren't where they needed to be along with the introduction of lines like "Double Black" and "Platinum." Personally, I would never spend the money on JW that they ask. IMHO, blended scotches should never be anywhere near those prices.
