The finger to the face reports are conflicting...
Why would you hold his naval academy graduation against him?
I'm an Army brat. lol LOL, touche.
I'm in a similar boat, no pun intended, I'm a US Navy vet, my son is about to go into the Army. The Army/Navy game just got a whole lot interesting.

Listening to Boomer and Carton this morning, they had Bart Scott on...he basically said from what he's seen, glass jaw glass jaw Geno has little support in the lockeroom, and virtually no leadership skills. To emphasize his point he said "can you imagine this happening to Joe Flacco? NO"
This is all rooted in that little uneasiness a lot of us had about glass jaw glass jaw Geno all along, starting with the negative buzz on him pre-draft.
Frankly, I'm glad this happened now, I had no faith in glass jaw glass jaw Geno and if we're going to see Fitz, might as well start the season with him.
I'll take it a step further and add that I would've liked to see Smith canned as well. The level of immaturity/narcissism displayed by him afterwards was amazing. "I just got my jaw broken in two places by a teammate #butfirstletmepostaselfie." That's the "leader", the face of your franchise? Fuck outta here.

A true leader, (insert name here, ie: Namath, Brady, Montana, Manning, et al) would not have let it get this far. They would have paid the $600 telling the guy, consider it a donation because my tax accountant is. Actions speak louder than words. glass jaw glass jaw Geno has no clue how to lead.
How quickly we forget..
Bart Hubbuch @barthubbuch · 4m4 minutes ago Roger Staubach also got sucker-punched by a teammate. I'm sure he shared the blame m, because everyone knows he was such a terrible leader.
Staubach was a naval academy graduate
this post is wrong on so many levels, but I doubt you actually thought anyone was going to give any merit to this comparison. Geno didn't get sucker punched as we all know by now, he had is finger in IKs face and was telling him how he wasnt going to do anything about his stiffing him out of his 600. RS was hit when he had his shirt over his head and couldnt see by a nut case who was already planning his escape from the locker room - now that fits the definition of sucker punch.

Fuck IK. Fuck Geno. Fuck this franchise.
This is just another thing, in a loooong line of things, to be embarrassed about as a Jets fan. We'll get over it and continue our half-century Odyssey of finding a real QB.

This morning Boomer said that according to numerous sources he's heard from, and as the details are coming out.... they cut the wrong guy. Imho, Boomer's a pretty fair guy who is usually a strong player advocate.
Thinking about the Geno era and the way this thing went down, I cant help but suspect that Geno was never comfortable in his role, resented the expectations that come with the job, is an immature, insecure punk...and may have subconsciously committed suicide by cop by basically goading a teammate to deck him. Now, out for the foreseeable future....he's tweeting "I'll be back" type tough guy shyte? R U sh*tting me?
While not nearly as impactful as Bledsoe going down to initiate the Brady era, perhaps glass jaw Geno basically taking himself out of the equation will turn out to be huge in moving this franchise in the right direction.
I cant help but think that Coach Bowles, and many in the organization, are thinking the same as the dust settles.

Yep. Kinda sucks we cut IK when you think about it but really, there was no choice. It had to be done. Especially after what Bowles been saying about no fighting. If he didn't break the jaw, who knows, but then Geenope would still be starting and ruining the season, which now we see how much a punk he is, he would most definitely have gotten benched, and then Fitzmagic would come in on a too little too late winning streak only to fuck with our draft spot. SOJ way you know it would go down like that. At least now we have a chance at an entertaining season. May not win shit, but stranger things have happened. Maybe this is Fitzmagics Kurt Warner moment. I mean... It's gonna take some crazy ass shit like this for us to win anything anyways. And also this is the best roster Fitz ever had a chance to play with on both sides of ball. Maybe the curse has just been reversed. The Idzik stink is being wiped away with a final haymaker. lol The new dawn is upon us!

+1 all around. Now that the dust is settling you realize the lack of overall judgment/maturity Geno has...and this is the dude we're handing the keys over to? How on earth did he let the situation boil to the point where he gets his neck ripped off is just mind blowing. Personally, I don't want him on the field again. F him.

The broken jaw selfie is one of the most embarrassing things I've seen in a long time. It's a small part of the story, but really sums up the whole thing nicely. I posted this in another thread, but it's why I think these "minor" character concerns are not overblown at all. Quarterbacks have to be extraordinary people. I can't stand when people brush off incidents like Johnny Manziel's by saying "what did you do in college?" I don't want me quarterbacking our football team. The vast majority of these guys are mature past their years. They are leader of men and live and breathe football. No I'm not saying Smith is as bad as Manziel. Between being late for the meeting because of a "time zone" difference (before a HUGE game) to getting kicked off the plane (yeah it was a misunderstanding supposedly, but I don't see Peyton Manning putting himself in that position) to getting in a fight with a backup defensive player... well as others have said where there is smoke there is fire. I don't think Geno is a bad guy by any means, but he's immature which was painfully clear by his decision to take a selfie shortly after getting his jaw broken. Immature people aren't good leaders and they certainly don't make super bowl winning quarterbacks. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt this year because he was saying all the right things and he has all the talent you could want, but nothing has changed. We are never going anywhere with Geno. We just wanted to convince ourselves there was a chance. Immaturity and inconsistency are his demise.
