If people have the right to carry a gun...why not also a hand grenade? Let's take it the other way. If you are going to heavily regulate gun ownership, what's next? Bow and arrows? Machetes? Long Knives? Switch blades? Pocket Knives? Axes?..... Mad Martial Arts skills?

Too many idiots own swimming pools, forks and 2nd floor windows. And then shit happens. Alert me the next time a 5 year old kills his baby brother with a fork.

While we are allowing our citizens to protect themselves I would like to see us give our law enforcement better toolboxes as well. Whatever changes this incompetent administration has made to not giving local police departments equipment due to the fear of "militarization" needs to be reversed. In active shooter and terrorist attacks our police and first responders are basically soldiers on the front line. We should be giving them all the tools and support they need.

Don't own a gun, but just about everyone I know does. And the one thing they all have in common is a great deal of respect for the dangers presented by guns. I really do believe there is a failure of the anti-gun types to understand that 99.9% of all lawful gun owners are very good people who understand the responsibility associated with gun ownership. I often wonder if the anti-gun people understand anything about gun ownership; such as, the work and knowledge involved in properly cleaning and maintaining a gun, how much a gun costs; how much ammunition costs? I think 99.9% is optimistic. I'm not feeling too good about the rush to have open carry with no license/training. My fear is conflicts that used to be solved with flipping someone the bird will now become shoot outs. Once tempers flare, judgement goes out the window. www.theblaze.com/stories/2016/03/09/pro-gun-activist-shot-by-her-4-year-old-son-after-he-grabs-gun-from-back-seat-of-her-truck/

Oregon has open carry for over 30 years and I can't recall ever hearing about a lawfully carrying individual ever shooting some one in anger.

Gun owners traditionally have been very responsible, well trained, from families who pass down the tradition. I worry about now. I think we are starting to see more gun owners who don't understand the serious responsibility a gun is.

I would argue she would of been luckier if the kid had aimed at the roof of the car. But your point is well made. I see incidents like this in the "shit happens" category and are rare in the scheme of things

I have been preaching for a long time that gun safety training should be mandatory starting in kindergarten in all public schools. The NRA has some excellent programs where they will come to any school and teach gun safety for free.
