I'd rather take a flier on Cardale Jones (if he declares). I would be in favor of tanking the entire season for Cardale next year. He's like an athletic Roethlisberger. Unfortunately I think he's staying in school otherwise we could maybe pick him up with our 2nd rounder this year. He's probably not even going to be the starter next season if he stays.... I think this is a classic example of an Instant Gratification Society... a What Have You Done For Me Lately syndrome. This kid has played 3 games and people around the country are thinking he's the best QB prospect in college all of the sudden. I'm not saying one thing or another about him, I know a lot of his issues are off the field and he has had to overcome a lot of adversity. That's a great story. But we're talking about a kid that's played 3 games. There's no questioning his arm talent though. He can throw the football.

Unfortunately I think he's staying in school otherwise we could maybe pick him up with our 2nd rounder this year. I have to admit, C. Jones intrigues me. Did you see that 60 yard laser to the end zone that the receiver caught out-of-bounds (like 1/2 foot)? OMG, and I was rooting for the Ducks. What a throw. I will be honest, why should the kid stay in school? His stock will never be higher than it is now imo. Je just won the national championship and is coming off of 3 very impressive victories for his first three starts. Yes, he is raw in terms of experience. However, if he declares, if I am the Jets I trade down from the 6th and take a chance on him later in the first round. Let him come in and sit a year behind VaGeno. However, VaGeno knows that his job is in jeopardy and Jones is right there to take it when VaGeno slips up. I know many will disagree with me ontaking him in the first but until we get the QB position settled, we will not be an elite team. This is some of the goofiest shit I've ever heard. Kid has played a total of 3 games in college and people want to draft him in the 1st round while already declaring Mariota a bust. If he declares then I wouldn't be against taking a 6th or 7th round flier on him just based off of his size and arm talent, but you don't take him anywhere close to the 1st round.

enough with the jets needing to get another athletic qb. they had two this season. how'd that work out. totally agree about not reaching up to get him though. they're going to get a very good player where they are and they needs about 4 or 5 starters not including the qb. and mariota will need to ride the bench for a season or two.
and as for the athletic qb, the afceast has been getting its lunch eaten by a qb who is decidedly not athletic. all he does is make good quick decisions.

It sucks watching these kids' futures unfold for the worse right before your very eyes. Whether its Leaf, Leinart, Young, Johnny Football, etc., and now a Mariota...these are just kids who were (or they or others believed they were) Prime 1A their whole lives, and it comes crashing down at 21, 22, 23 years old. My daughter is getting ready to go to college, and it would be awful see to her dreams smashed to smithereens in just a few more years. What the hell are you talking about? I'd still take Mariota in a heartbeat if he falls to #6. A heartbeat? How about no. You talked Winston up like he was Thor. That kind of crumbled. Then it was Mariota the next of king of Minos. He's predictably looked less and less blue chip worthy under the microscope. He may or may not even go in the top 10 this draft. ...weren't you convinced Sanchez was the truth too in 2009. I think we'll listen to the voice of reason this time. If Mariota is there at 6, there's a reason. He can keep falling as far as I'm concerned.

I'd take him in a heartbeat if he falls to #6. I don't give a shit if he isn't a slam dunk prospect and I don't give a shit if he never becomes a truly elite player. If he becomes a Top 15 QB for the next 8-10 years, then I'll be more than happy. What you're describing, can be had outside of round 1. A little seasoning and we could make an effort to develop someone for the first time in, say.. oh I dunno, over a DECADE.

I expressed my concerns about not only his off the field issues, but his mechanics in the pocket repeatedly. I've only been in favor of taking him at #6 because the Jets are staring at fuck all at the QB position for the foreseeable future if they don't wind up with a Mariota or Winston in the draft. There's no guarantee that we'll be in position for a kid like Cook next year, so are you prepared for Geno Smith/Matt Moore/ Brian Hoyer behind center for the next 2-3 years, minimum? I wouldn't be completely shattered if the Jets went with Cooper or Parker over one of the Top 2 QB's...I'd give Maccagnan the benefit of the doubt. But if we pass on a kid like Mariota and he develops into a Top 15 QB for the next decade while we're still trotting out the Mark Sanchez's and Geno Smith's of the NFL...we're ALL going to be pissed.

I love Mariota and do not think he's a bust. I also don't think he will be there for the Jets at #6. If he is, I am on record saying the Jets must take him.

That's funny as I went to the Lakers game last week (Friday, Jan 2nd). Jeremy Lin lit it up. My point, he is still playing in the NBA, and effectively too.

so are you prepared for Geno Smith/Matt Moore/ Brian Hoyer behind center for the next 2-3 years, minimum? Yes, and no. I'm prepared for this team to do something besides chase unicorns and build up the secondary and offense, while we develop someone for 1-2 years. I'd be prepared to go with hoyer and Geno if we're developing Grayson/Bridge/Petty.

If Connor Cook declared, then I'd have no problem with trading down into the early-mid teens and taking him. But there's no damn way that you take a kid like Jones that high with his severely limited body of work. I'll be the first to admit that the idea of a 6'5 260 lb QB with a rifle for an arm is very intriguing, but not so intriguing that I'm willing to devote a 1st round pick to this fucking kid after 3 starts.

but I have a bad feeling he is going to be a polarizing figure the next four months and will likely drop to us at 6 creating a huge question mark for the new GM. If Marcus Mariota falls to 6 you take him and you don't look back. He's far from a sure thing but you have to take the risk with him or Winston at that spot. Gotta keep looking for the QB until you nail it, and we aren't doing much better than that in the mean time....

Boy, this board is going to be packed come draft day.
If the Jets trade up for Mariota or Winston, the reactions here will be classic. Can't wait.
