My bad on when we had to extend him. Just decline it. If he has a good year I'm sure him and Douglas could work something out. If he blows he goes. I doubt anyone would offer him a back breaking contract after 1 good year but who knows. There are worse things then having to pay a QB that you drafted a second contract though. I also don't see getting shit back in a trade for him this year. Draft well. Build the line, get a FA WR like Robinson or JuJu, build the D. Get a competent coach. There could be some FA QBs available to compete with Sam. As you say, if he blows he goes but better to find out with a team around him than to cut bait and roll the dice on another questionable QB. Ultimately trading Bridgewater wasn't smart. Bridgewater? He did ok with Payton and won 4 games this year. He wasn't the answer. Trading him was the right thing to do.

Gase has not been beneficial for Sam's development, that I won't argue. For me, Sam would suck no matter who was coaching him and I hate the argument that you need to build a super team around a QB for them to thrive. I've been following the Jets for probably as long as yourself, maybe longer. Every single QB that the Jets have drafted have never gone on to success with the Jets or any other team since Namath over 50 years ago. Darnold will be no different. You could be right but I look at Tannehill who played like shit under Gase and is now a good QB. He qualifies as an outlier statistically. Tanny was also never rated as the worst QB in the league like Sam was and still is.

Some fans here just can't accept that their viewpoint is not the same as others.
They always have to try and "convert" people to what *they* believe.
Thought you had me on "ignore". Lmao

A bit of a mindfuck but at this same point in his career Aaron Rodgers had yet to start a game. So there is hope. But we've seen this movie before. Can Sam be a Trent Dilfer, Eli Manning or Joe Flacco? Sure. But do you wanna lock up 1/8th of you cap space on a guy that needs a lights out team around him. Why would you give Sam that contract if he's not worth it? Joe D isn't a moron. He's under contract for 2 more years. If we grabbed Sewell Thuney Allen Robinson and a few more pieces and he doesn't have a breakout year then decline his option and figure out what you're gonna do at the end of next year. But by then we don't have the 2nd pick.

He was never the worst rated QB in the NFL year after year like Sam. I'm having a hard time how some fans can still defend Darnold and want to move the franchise forward with him running the ship. We've had three years of evaluation and he's failed at every metric.

When do the excuses end? Iv'e been hearing he's young over and over, yet now he is older than any other prospect. He's talented but he's lacking it between the ears and you can't fix that. He'll never amount to anything, just like every other QB the Jets have let go of in the last 50 years.

You seem like you want to take him out behind the woodshed and put him out of his misery.

I think RobR is taking this "loss of Trevor Lawrence" a bit too personally, imo.
