Not that I am advocating this at all but what if the Front office loves Mariota and trades up for him what would the reaction of the fanbase be? I hope he is gone at 6 and we take either Cooper or White if available.

Don't want either of these QBs, who will be no better than Geno Smith.

Don't want either of these QBs, who will be no better than Geno Smith. I have a bad feeling you may be right. Rather stick with the Geno we know than the "Geno" we don't know(Mariota/Winston). That said, I guess we would HAVE TO take Mariota if he falls to us so we can "motivate" Geno to play well or easily get his ass benched.

The fact that Gailey runs an offense like Genope was killing in college makes a huge difference. You can't evaluate shit with the hogwallop Rex was running here. Although that doesn't explain some of the serious bonehead shit Genope has done repeatedly, but the point is, don't let him get into those situations. Just like at WV, more or less.

If Mariota is there at #6, then I don't see how the hell we pass on him unless Maccagnan and Co. are absolutely convinced that the kid is going to be a total fucking scrub.
The Jets still have arguably the worst QB situation in the league. Definitely bottom 3 or 4.
People can bitch at the top of their lungs about how Mariota doesn't come from a conventional offense, but there's no doubt that he possesses some elite physical tools and is highly regarded as a bright kid who is devoted to his craft.
Not to mention that Chan Gailey was essentially Chip Kelly before Chip Kelly and has plenty of experience orchestrating the spread.

the good news is...no matter who the Jets pick,GoonGoon19 will write a 1000 word manifesto on why it's "the right move! a savvy move!! a great move!!!" and THIS, at last, will be THE year.
Of course, the Jets could take a linebacker. In which case, HilarityHilarity19 will declare that the Jets tricked the Patriots into THINKING they'd take a QB when, actually, they STOLE the player Beledick really really wanted at 32.
Just relax, it's all going to work out just fine...BaghdadBaghdadBob 19 guarantees it.

I guess it's a matter of how fast can he learn to play in the pro-style offense, and how patient the fans, teammates, front-office, etc. will be having a #6 pick sit while Geno remains Geno (presumably). I'm sure if we beef up the line and have a strong RB core we can ground and pound until he is ready, and/or limit putting each game in Geno's hands. You can also pick up another veteran quarterback to help Mariota accelerate the process, and mop up for Geno if things go really south.
Either way, I'm hoping neither Winston or Mariota is at 6 when we pick, and that our future franchise QB has yet to be found.

This Marshall trade makes me wonder if they are setting up to take mariota, or they are going to help geno with the spread offense.
