Fitz is not long term, we need to see what Geno can do with decent protection and a full deck of weapons. This

Geno should get the first shot. He is the returning starter, he played well the last 4 games, plus Fitz is still rehabbing. Petty isn't ready yet and Simms, obviously, is the victim of a bizarre NFL conspiracy... Geno deserves his shot in the new O with the improved supporting cast. Time to step up, young man. granted he should be considered the starter since he's been the qb for two seasons but he should still have to win it.??

Why would you expect him to say anything else?
If Geno is the presumptive starter then why create controversy for no reason?
If Geno isn't the presumptive starter then why create the controversy and unnecessarily kill his confidence?
Besides, I'm sure he knows Cimini can't be trusted. Just feed him as little as possible to make him go away.

Lmao, of course. Here's to another year of the Geno "yards after the interception" Smith show, boys. Geno only had 13Ints last season. He just needs to increase his TDs to over 25. "Only" 13 INTs and 3 fumbles isn't good when he also was benched numerous times and only threw 13 TDs. That, my friend, is shitty.

Rich Cimini @richcimini ยท 4m 4 minutes ago Barring an injury, Smith "probably" will be Wk 1 starter, per Gailey, who basically said there's no way Geno can lose job in camp. #nyj How does "probably" will be Wk 1 starter = no way Geno can lose the job in camp? Cimini is such a tool. I know, right? That's like saying I "probably" will win the Powerball Jackpot tomorrow or something. What a turd.

Maybe you should write slowly, then you wouldn't be saying two complete opposite things in one sentence. its funny, stop being so full of yourself.

www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/05/no_competition_geno_smith_is_jets_starting_quarter.html#incart_2box_sports_index.ssf"He can throw the ball," Gailey said. " He was making good decisions when it was clean reads. So that's what you try to do is you try to make it clean reads for him, so we evaluated how he threw the ball, how he handled himself when there was pressure, how he handled himself when things broke down. All those little things like that, that you see." I think the most important part of what Gailey saw is the bolded part. The staff may figure that if they limit the play calls to what Smith is comfortable with ("clean reads"), he can play well. For all we know, Morningwheg may have been trying ad nauseam last year to call plays that Smith is just not good at executing.

He didn't say anything new that hasn't been already stated. So don't take this shit show too seriously. If Geno shits the bed he's gonna get yanked for the steady veteran who already knows the system. My word, people! Use your powers of reason. Exactly Geno SHOULD be the starter to open the season. But I guarantee he'll be on a short leash. They won't hesitate to pull his ass and sit him on the bench if he puts up a couple of clunkers at the beginning of the season. Why the fuck anyone would actually WANT Fitzpatrick to start over him is beyond me. At least Geno still has a shitload of physical talent and is now surrounded by an actual NFL offense. Fitz just is what he is. A mediocre, veteran backup. Totally agree. Fitz is here should Geno fail he also serves as a good mentor for the young QB something he never had.

The circus (Rex and company) has left town. The clown car (NY media) remains.
If you don't fuel the clown car (QB controversy) you avoid the need to outrace or outmaneuver it; you can ignore it and move forward at the pace and in the direction that best serves the team.
Chan's press conference was just great. He has STUDIED his personnel, made a defensible mature conclusion (Fitz is an old injured worthy backup, Petty needs time, Geno has shown flashes of brilliance and flashes of incompetence) about the spot. He believes he has identified a trend (Geno needs clean reads) and plans to adjust the offense to put Geno in a position to succeed. Part of that process is giving Geno lots of reps. The reason is that Chan will CONTINUE to learn about the ENTIRETY of the offense, identify the MANY trends, and work both with player progression and scheme adjustment to produce results.
I find it difficult to side with those who believe in sound bites (competition, ground£, ...) over Gailey's description of his intentions. No time for a media-fueled QB controversy, there is too much real work to do AFTER the QB is known. When was the last time we spent the preseason DEVELOPING the offense instead of just choosing the damned QB? Love the fresh air; as my Dad says "Ain't the beer cold!"

This is not unexpected. Gailey considers himself to be a very good coach. Geno has undeniable arm talent to go along with questionable decision making and poor ball security skills. Gailey knows that no amount of coaching will give Fitz Geno's physical skills, and Gailey thinks Geno's weaknesses can be minimized with some good coaching. Plus, Gailey likes to build his offense around his players skill-sets. An O built for Geno looks a whole lot different than an O built for Fitz.
Their isn't a coach in the world, from youth sports to the pros, who doesn't make every effort to give the physically talented player every chance to succeed. Plus, if the whole thing blows up, Fitz is the back-up plan. That works a whole lot better than having Geno as the back-up plan if Fits falls on his face.
If I'm Gailey, I cut down Geno's reads. Maybe do like the Niners did for Alex Smith and limit most passing reads to half the field. Also, I'd adopt the Chip Kelly practice of having the O line up early with plenty of time on the play clock so I can talk to my QB about the play while he is under center.
Bottom line, I trust Gailey. He's an excellent OC. First OC we've had that I have a high degree of confidence in since Hemmindinger.

This team will never take the next step with Geno Smith at QB. Well...lets blame Geno but this has been a 45 year ordeal. This GM situation is the best we seem to have had in 45 years so maybe we can draft a real QB before I die.

Fairly stated IMO. FITZ is in this league 2 years or less so he offers little, Geno has shown flashes but the Buffalo game last year was my last straw. Remember...he ended the 2013 season VERY strong. We looked like a superbowl team right up to the last 2 minutes of the 1st half against Green Bay.
