Rooting for the team to lose is tough.....I think indifference is a better word. I was rooting for the Jets yesterday, but would not have been upset had they lost in the end. Have to give Rex credit, these guys are still playing hard for him. Playing hard? They barely beat a team with an OT signed off the street this week, a 3d string QB, only 3 WRs on the active roster, and the worst run D in the entire NFL.

I'll admit that I wanted them to lose as well but felt a little different after the fight. For a few minutes I wanted the Jets to kick their a@@ but at the end I was going nuts on the final play hoping they would make it into the endzone and felt ill when they didn't. I actually felt as bad as I do when I want the Jets to win and they lose. That describes exactly the same emotional state I was in too during the changes of the game. I know everyone is mad at Rex after his comments about real jets fans wanting to win but he's right about 1 thing. There is no Peyton manning in this draft. In an interview with bill parcels this week on the radio, he talked about the danger of taking a qb in the draft that you don't really believe is the guy. Sometimes you end up taking one because you have a need so bad but in your heart you dont believe in the guy. That may be the case with both of these qbs. I could see Winston fail because of attitude and immaturity. I could see mariota as another system qb that doesn't pan out. Both of these guys could still be there when were on the clock. Maybe we didn't lose anything. At this point last year bridgewater was supposed to be the first pick and he slipped big. As the draft process plays out our pick may be too high for both of these qbs. Maybe we lost nothing.

I don't care if Mariota isn't Andrew Luck. I've said time and time again that if Mariota simply turns out to be a Top 15 QB for the next 8-10 years along the lines of Joe Flacco and Matthew Stafford, I'd be totally fucking thrilled. You're best chances of landing a franchise QB are at the top of the draft. I don't even see how that's debatable. And VERY few of them are going to be once in a generation, surefire prospects like Luck. You still have to take a chance. It sure as hell beats banking on the 0.001% chance that you land the next Montana or Brady in the mid-late rounds. agreed but again losing this game did not guarantee us the top pick in the draft. There was still many more variables it's pointless to talk about mariotta, the jets have maybe a 5% chance of getting him. idzik won't burn the picks to get him and if they can idzik, the next gm will want to keep the picks (they already dealt what, a 4th to seattle). i also don't think winston is cut out for ny. i'm convinced they'll take an OT to replace brick in a year, brick's play has dropped noticeably this year. if idzik stays expect someone like bradford to come and compete with geno, and we'll be reading articles about how pryor and amaro are ready to make idzik's draft look better.

When you say still playing, you mean barely beating a 3rd string QB with a starting LT that was literally working at the Walmart Meat department last Monday? They did win. This team still sucks. Its the worst team we've had since 1996. And I can argue that Mangini went to the playoffs in 2006 with less talent.

You can have all the talent in the world....if you have a dumbass at QB, none of the aforesaid talent matters
I agree this is a bad team, but it might be the worst season I have ever witnessed a QB have as a member of The Jets......and that's saying A LOT

And as far as the roster, it's all about the QB. Pennington vs. Geno Smith.

2005 Brooks Bollinger with Turnstile Adrian Clark at RT is better than Geno and Giacomini

The only question marks are Winston and Cooper(and some here think the GAY-dahs grab him but others say they'll grab a DL)....

We heard the same thing about bridgewater last year while the season was still going. Even after it ended people thought clowney to the Texans was a smoke screen and they would do the right thing and take the qb in bridgewater. There are lots of questions about mariota because of his system and also the fact that he's more of the new style scrambler as opposed to the pocket qb. The single read system doesn't show you if guys can read a defense. Taking a guy from a pro style system is safer.

The hype machine is in full swing with Mariota now that he won the Heisman, and all the other awards. Dungy has proclaimed him Aaron Rodgers in waiting and the rest of the media lemmings are just following the conventional wisdom of the moment. Those guys never have an original, or brave, thought in their heads and get paid to repeat what they've heard someone else smarter say. Anyway, having said all that I believe it is actually possible that Mariota could drop. Maybe not Bridgewater who didn't have the hype machine going quite as hard, but just maybe.

There's no way that Mariota drops. Winston...maybe. Physical freaks with the intangibles that Mariota possesses are hard to come by. 6'4 220, big arm, lightning quick release, can stand tall in the pocket and keep his eyes downfield, smart, high character, devout work ethic, 4.4 speed...teams like Tampa and Tennessee aren't passing on that.

Maybe for once we are lucky. Maybe Winston drops to the Jets and they take a chance on him (which I think they'd have to), and Winston turns out to be the a top 10 type QB similar to Ben Roethlisberger. Maybe, just maybe, the stars are actually aligned in the Jet's favor for once since in the past 45 years.
