People need to be less dramatic about Hackenberg. The only relevant question is will he improve. The answer is, no one knows. Brady was the 4th string QB for the Pats behind, Bledsoe, Freisz, and Bishop at the beginning of the 2000 season. So, there is no shame in being the #4 QB in your rookie year.

I agree but never use Brady as an argument - that was a generational fluke.

He's a rookie. I'm a Petty fan, but I can't crucify Hackenberg, he gets a pass this year for Chrissakes. Although for Jets messageboards, there's always a faction that has extreme opinions on players, for instance when Hackenberg was drafted he was the second coming of Jesus H. and now he's shown he's a rookie, he's a bum. JMHO. Tim

I just hope the guy isn't shell shocked after being sacked so much at Penn St. Last night was fucking brutal.

Although those seem to be the people who were completely pissed he was drafted, the rest seem to be willing to give him a chance

Biggest problem the kid has IMO is he tries to get out of trouble by relying on his arm strength, a big no-no in the NFL. This further compounds his accuracy issues as he tends to then throw off his back foot and/or doesn't take a step forward towards his target. Certainly fixable, but it'll be awhile.

Didnt get to see the game tonight. Honest hearfelt evaluations please. He honestly sucks beyond belief. Looked like the worst QB ever to play for a pro team. Ever. Probably will go down as the worst 2nd round pick we ever had. Worse than amaro, worse than Stephen hill, Devin smith; etc etc. Macc really blew it. He deserves to be fired for how bad a pick it is. Hated it then and hate it more now. Idiot jets.

I keep reading how bad he was and agree after watching that dreck last night, however, a few points to remember:
Hack has not had any reps in TC, basically from Penn ST to the NFL, albeit pre season, still must be tough to get used to obviously OffenSIEVE line sucked big last night and protection was non existent. I am VERY worried about our overall OL, especially if 1 starter goes down, we may see Hack in the RS after Fitz and Geno get injured.
We all know Hack is a project, but we cannot judge this player now, it is way too soon. exactly...and for every bad pass..his next good pass was dropped or the WR TE ran the wrong route? Calm down guys..he's fucking twenty years old!

We all agree - why discuss him now? He had some "practice" for better or worse, and that's that unless Fitz AND Geno get hurt. He's on ice until 2017 (and he's not going to sit that year - no way).

Hackenberg looked as advertised last night; a mess. Anyone expecting that to change after a couple months in shorts this summer, should check their hopes at the door. Developing a QB though, is entirely different than fixing one. I don't know what the success rate is on the latter, but it can't be good.
This will shock none of you, but I have concerns with Macc on this one. You & your scouting department spend all year assessing and analyzing QBs -- and you walked away with Hack? Thats what you and your crack-squad of fucking QB gurus came up with?? It's not like we have Palmer or Rivers leading the charge. We needed to draft the franchise now. I'm sure Darron Lee will end up being a good LBer for us, but he'd need to be the next Ray Lewis to justify passing on Lynch for example. That's bullshit.

It could be worse, we could have traded what the Rams did for Goff and ended up with a player who hasn't looked much better than Hack.

Yeah, there really is no superstar among the up and coming QB's once Brady retires. Rodgers I guess takes that mantle. Roethlesburger doesn't have much left I think, and Brees is done. Eli is too inconsistent. Rivers is Marino - all stats, no rings. Even Luck being the next great QB God doesn't seem like a lock. MAYBE you can say Cam one day.. but for now, he hasn't done shit. And Wilson was a one year wonder.
