So far it looks like a slow start for the Jets in searching for their next OC following the "retirement" of Chan Gailey. A few data points...
1. The Jets were denied the ability to interview Eagles QB coach John DeFillipo for their OC position. While this is unfortunate it does seem like a good indication that the Jets are focused on a person with strong QB development chops (DeFillipo is being credited with Carson Wentz's mostly successful rookie year at QB)
2. Today the Raiders confirmed they will not be retaining their OC, Bill Musgrave, despite having the 6th ranked offense in the NFL and a fairly successful season. Part of the reason for letting Musgrave walk seems to be the Raiders fear that their QB coach, Todd Downing, could get swooped up by another team for their OC position. Two NFL teams reportedly inquired about Downing who will now be promoted to the Raiders OC position. We don't know for sure that the Jets are one of the two teams but it seem likely. This would be strike two in simply trying to contact/interview an OC candidate who has had success developing a QB (2nd Round pick Derek Carr).
Where do the Jets go next?

Where do the Jets go next? Good question and I sure as hell don't have an answer. It might be the least desirable opening available in the NFL right now. Coach and GM on the hot seat and the two QB's under contract are Petty and Hackenberg.

I want the guy who said Hack can't throw it in the ocean.
He knows.

Mike McCoy, Norv Turner, Greg Olson, Bill Musgrave...plenty of quality, experienced options out there.
Woody needs to open the checkbook and land one of them.

Bill Musgrave is my first choice the Raiders are nuts. Versus Denver with Matt McGloin at QB and the #2 seed in the AFC on the line the Raiders laid an egg. Yes, I understand they didn't have Derek Carr......but if you have a subpar QB then tell me why Latavius Murray only had 5 carries that game? Why did Oakland only rush 16 times? I'm not sure Musgrave is the answer for the Jets.

I can't see what any good OC would want to come here until we have an actual QB.

I thought Chan "retired"? _ I'm guessing Patullo. I question the overall intelligence of coaches who anonymously throw players, others coaches, or the front office under the bus. Don't they realize that they are torpedoing their own career? Why would anyone ever hire someone who is even suspected as being the anonymous source for such disloyal acts?

They'd have to actually win first to go there.
