Jets fans, love him or hate him, really need to start wrapping their heads around him being our QB. It's a real possibility he could be there at 6. Agreed I'm definitely hesitant with Winston, but if he falls to #6...you might just have to take the gamble. Otherwise, what the hell are we looking at for the foreseeable future at QB? Geno? Matt Moore? Jason Campbell? Jake Locker?

i think tampa will take mariotta since he doesn't have the baggage and taking winston and keeping him in state would be too much for a small market team like the bucs to handle. i also think tennessee will not take winston, they have been burned by vince young and locker in the past 10 years and i'm guessing they'll go with mettenberger and a vet like cutler. i think the jets hc and gm will have a hot debate on their hands.

Dad says he's going pro. espn.go.com/nfl/draft2015/story/_/id/12131473/jameis-winston-florida-state-seminoles-nfl-draft-father-saysDad: Jameis Winston going pro Updated: January 7, 2015, 10:06 AM ET By David M. Hale | ESPN.com Jameis Winston won't be back in a Florida State uniform next season, his father said Wednesday, opting instead to enter the NFL draft. Initially, Antonor Winston said his son planned to wait until after the College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT&T to announce a decision, but instead, Jameis Winston came to a firm decision Tuesday night that he was ready to enter the NFL draft. [+] EnlargeJameis Winston Harry How/Getty Images Jameis Winston passed for 7,964 yards and 65 touchdowns in just two seasons at Florida State. Antonor Winston said his son received a first-round grade from the NFL draft advisory committee. ESPN NFL Draft Insider Mel Kiper Jr. has Winston rated as the second-best quarterback behind 2014 Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and the sixth player overall on his latest Big Board. Kiper believes that Winston has special pocket instincts and the necessary vision, size, arm strength and athleticism to make it in the NFL. In his latest mock draft, ESPN NFL Draft Insider Todd McShay projects Winston to go No. 2 overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston wrapped up his redshirt sophomore season with a loss to Oregon in the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual. He was 26-1 as a starter and led Florida State to the national championship last season. While off-field incidents swirled throughout much of his time at FSU, Winston's numbers were among the best in college football when he was on the field. Winston ranks fourth in touchdown passes (65), fourth in passing yards (7,964) and second in passes of 20 yards or more (124) since the start of the 2013 season. Winston's statistics fell off this season as he threw for 3,907 yards, 25 touchdowns and had 18 interceptions. He also rushed for 65 yards and three TDs. The biggest knocks on Winston remain his off-the-field scandals, which included a rape allegation for which he was not charged. In December 2014, Florida State held an internal student code of conduct hearing regarding those allegations in which an independent arbiter ruled that there was not enough evidence to find Winston guilty. Winston also served a one-game suspension earlier this season for yelling a vulgar phrase in an on-campus dining area. Winston's father said initial plans to delay an announcement were scuttled by extensive media attention and that after Jameis Winston prayed on the decision Tuesday night, he felt comfortable with his plan to leave for the NFL. A formal announcement is expected Wednesday afternoon.

I think if he is there at 6 we have to take a chance. I highly doubt he is there but you never know. Maybe he will push Cooper to us.

I think if he is there at 6 we have to take a chance. I highly boubt he is there but you never know. Maybe he will push Cooper to us. You also have to take into consideration that Andrus Peat just declared and is considered a Top 5 prospect in this draft by many and the best overall LT. Someone like Winston, Cooper or Gregory is bound to be there at #6.

I cringe at that possibility, thankfully the odds are slim to none.

Give me Cooper 10 times over. Jameis is a ticking timebomb. Let him explode on someone else's draft.

Winston's stock is going to rise. I could see a team trading into the 2nd spot just to ensure they get him. He may not be worth a 2nd overall but in a class where the qbs are weak this is what happens. Look at the ponder, locker draft.

I think you have to take Winston if he is there. While I would live Cooper, there are other good WR's in the draft, and in free agency (potentially). We need a QB, someone like Winston is available, you take him.
I hope he's not available, as he is too much of a question mark for me, but...I'm sure it's our destiny to be faced with that decision when we are on the clock. And God help all of us if we take a pass and he ends up lighting it up somewhere else.

Despite the baseball quote, I think Winston will declare. I am not confident that he will fall to six so I suspect the Winston haters wont have to worry when the Jets are on the clock. I called it, the kid declares ... too much to gain and not a lot more to accomplish in FL. I'm not sure that the Jets will draft him if he falls, certainly Idzik would not have after last years misfires ... hopefully our new GM is a risk taker.
