Trillion Dollar Conspiracy by Jim Marrs is a great read. He's a NYT best seller that explains some of our ills as a country over a decade ago.
And if you have five hours....

I liked the first three red rising books. Haven’t read any of the others. They any good? Iron Gold is very good, but does get ponderous at times. Dark Age is fucking brutal; possibly my favorite so far. if you like the red rising books you’ll probably like the silo series by Hugh Howey

Definitely a solid series, and kind of relevant right now in a couple of ways.

I’m currently reading The Splendid and the Vile, the latest book by Eric Larson, who previously wrote Devil in the White City, In the Garden of the Beasts, Dead Wake, etc.
It’s about the Churchill and England during the blitz. Good read so far. Larson is a great writer - tells historical stories but in a character narrative format rather than a biographical or pure history format.

Granted the don’t shout about their successes but holy shit. We’re fooked.
Just one fuckup after another from Vietnam forward. What a mess.

Sounds interesting and I've been looking for a new book. I'm curious why you say one fuck up after another from Vietnam forward? The CIA has been beyond corrupt since its founding, and even before that depending on what it was called. One can only imagine most of the horrors that we'll never learn about and what they're currently doing. Just reading the declassified shit from half a century ago is downright scary but 99% of Americans have no clue, even when it's right out there in the open for all too see.

I mentioned/started withVietnam because that stuck out to me as the most egregious series of ongoing multiple failures. There was plenty of history before that no doubt.

I thought it a good read as well.

Read the book and I'm afraid I have to agree with you. Even though it's discouraging as hell, it was a good read.

The Spy Who Knew Too Much: An Ex-CIA Officer's Quest Through a Legacy of Betrayal www.amazon.com/Spy-Who-Knew-Too-Much/dp/0063054213Good book if you like the Genre. The US Government will be the death of this nation. We must be the stupidest fucking people in the world when it comes to espionage, both ours and and our adversaries, The CIA is, without a doubt, a haven for incompetents and corruption on a scale that is not to be believed. I believe only the English are bigger losers when it comes to 'the game'.
