So the money counted against the cap to sign Mo would be the difference of what he mkes no and his new dollar figure right? I'm not sure about this. I think it depends on the way the contract is structured/restructured. I think the best answer is it depends.

Does Jason from Over the Cap still post on any of the Jets boards? He was a regular at JI for a while

Wilkerson won't get extended this off-season. Especially since Woody laid out a ton of money this off-season in signing bonuses. And he doesn't need to extend him this year. They still have the franchise tag available to them next season but ultimately the cap is supposed to go up $10 million next year and the Jets will have to spend a bunch of cash next off-season as well. I can see the Jets restructuring a few contracts to get more cap room this off-season to bring in another HB, S, CB, OL, Kenrick Ellis?. Here are some guys they can restructure or extend: Marshall: Turn $6.5 million from his base salary to a signing bonus. Saves $4 million off the cap this year and is still cuttable after 2 years. DBrick: Something will be done to lower his cap number over the next 3 years. It's $11 million, $14 million, $14 million Cumberland: Cut him save $1.9 million. Jarrett/Allen: Cut one of these two save $1.5 million Walls: Cut and save $1.075 million All these moves (except DBrick) would save $7.6 million against this years. All guys could be replaced by internal candidates or draft selections. If we take an edge rusher in the draft, then Babin and/or Pace become expendable. I think Pace would save us about $2.5MM and Babin about another $1.5MM. As you point out -- there is still flexibility to add some cap room if we need it. I would be shocked if both Babin and pace are on the roster in September. Agree about Pace, there is still more than enough cap space to sign some more FAs without having to start deferring money from this year into future years.

We spent a lot of money, but we had to. I read somewhere next year we should have around 35-40 million to sign the likes of Sheldon, Demario, and Wilk and if don't sign him this season. I could see Harrison leaving but I would really want to resign him as well. I definitely think it was money well spent. Addressed several issues facing this team. Allows us to go BPA in the draft and like you said allows us to re-sign our guys with next years cap. I say sign Cro and Gilchrist and maybe a blocking TE or backup OL and call it a very successful FA.Agreed. Do any of the available free agent TE's stick out to you?

Of the guys that are left, I kind of like Bear Pascoe. 29. Size and strength of a good run blocker as well as decent pass catching abilities. Not quick or graceful, but the guy plays hard and drives through people on blocks.

Well that didn't take long. People were saying how hard it was going to be to spend as much as we had to. I guess not with Revis on the books, LOL

Per Jason at Over The Cap (I like to use him because he was the original guy to do this, is a Jets fan and was and maybe still be, a poster here) $26 million in space left - with Revis, Marshall, Harris, & Fitz) Still missing Skrine (gonna have to learn how to spell that) and Carpenter. We still have plenty of room left to play around. overthecap.com/salary-cap-spaceoverthecap.com/salary-cap/new-york-jets/

Rookies will be 7. That leaves $13 million from the above 26. Cro and Gil will probably eat up about 9 or 10 of that. not sure how comfortable i feel going into the season with just 4 or 5 million (injuries and whatnot) but i guess more players will be cut (pace, babin, shittier dbs) so whatever

Thought this deserved it's own thread since cap discussions have been spread out over like 3-4 threads. $19.9M taking into account all signed players (except Carpenter and Skrine) and setting aside $6M for the draft. Carpenter + Skrine could count as much as $11.25M against the cap, but probably more like $4M each. Estimated left over cap: $8.65M - $11.9M Link: www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/cap/if true not so bad. they were required to spend 89% and they are well over that. they should be able to address the other holes with the draft. qb is going to be tough but here's to hoping fitzpatrick can light a fire under genoooo or be good enough in his own right.

I hope he chimes in. But yes, the numbers are the same as my original post. Current Cap is $25.9M before the draft ($6M), Carpenter ($4M - $5M est.) and Skrine ($4 - $6.25M est.) cap hits $25.9M - $6M - ($4M to $5M) - ($4M to $6.25M) = Anywhere from $8.65M - $11.9M given Carpenter and Skrine estimates (Could have a little more if Skrine and Carpenter account for less than $4M each, but that's unlikely)

It's $4.25 million when you account for the $2 million roster bonus and the $750,000 pro-rated portion of the signing bonus. Still good though.
