Updated to include Colon contract.
I'm a little confused by this one. I thought base salary counted fully against the cap? It says his base salary is $870K but cap hit is $585K. How's that possible?
Also, the overall cap only went down by $100K. I'm assuming someone was released?

There is a provision that allows a veteran's minimum salary to count less against the cap: www.spotrac.com/blog/nfl-minimum-salaries-for-2015-and-the-veteran-cap-benefit-rule/

It is nice someone on this site knows this stuff; it is even better to have a FO that knows how to leverage it.

I'm not one of them. I just follow the cap tracking sites out there and report back. Just trying to learn it for my own interest. I agree that it's great to have a FO that knows WTF they're doing.

We will probably enter the season with around 6 million or so which is perfect for in season transactions.
The big thing to remember is that this upcoming year and the following year, most of the guaranteed money we have handed out the past few days will be paid, which gives us excellent freedom to dump players if need be. I expect the likes of Marshall and even Revis could be potentially cuts 2 or 3 years from now, especially if Milliner makes his case and skrine proves to be the real deal. Revis was a great addition because of how friendly his deal is. After two years he will get most of his guaranteed money giving us the ability to move on from him. So for those who say this revis deal will strap us, it will only be for this year really, since we will have over 30 million next season.

Yes. There's no need to extend Mo till next year. I believe we'll have something like $35M - $40M in cap space in 2016 (at least that was what it was before FA this year). As of now, we are about $40 mil in cap space for 2016 -- but that's with only 37 players under contract. So while there is a lot of cap space, we will also have a lot of roster spots to fill. with six picks this year and next year i think it's a safe bet that at least 12 of those spots will be 1st and 2nd year players, plus a couple of UDFA's that almost inevitably make the team. that would put us at just 50, not including a couple of free agents we'd be bound to pick up. i'd say we're set up nicely for the next 3-4 years in terms of roster and salary cap, so long as we hit on a QB one of these days.

Still no cap hit details for Cro, Gilchrist and Purdum. Wonder what's taking so long?

Updated. All signings except Cro Supposedly he counts $7 million against the cap this year. Wouldn't expect the Jets to do much else outside of maybe bringing in a handful of depth guys like Lattimore, Guy and maybe re-signing Ellis.

Didn't want to subtract the $7M until it's official. Should have about $3.9M left after Cro and accounting for the draft. We could still cut people as well, so we're in good shape as far as the cap situation.

Cro will reportedly make $7mil in 2015 - leaves us with about $3.9mil to work with before cuts...
