Over the cap has us with $22.3 million cap space -- updated with the Skrine and Powell signings. Assume we will be around $18 million after Carpenter numbers are included.

If I am not mistaken, don't we have to spend most of our $ due to the new CBA?

If I am not mistaken, don't we have to spend most of our $ due to the new CBA? Correct The "89-percent rule" mandates that teams spend 89 percent of their salary-cap dollars over a four-year period -- 2013 to 2016. The Jets spent 81.16% over the last 2 years. 2013: $101,549,147 2014: $106,230,662 Last year's cap was $133 million. This year's cap is $143 million. Next year it will increase again. So, according to the NFLPA, the Jets have to spend an average of about $141 million over the next two seasons to be in compliance with the 89-percent rule. Wow, we spent more than 80% last season and fielded such a crappy squad? Makes me appreciate the job MM is doing much more.

How much of an impact would a Mo extension would be? How much should we be leaving aside for that?

How much of an impact would a Mo extension would be? How much should we be leaving aside for that? I feel that's going to happen next offseason. There really is no rush right now and we're going to have a good amount of cap space next offseason. they're probably going to set up the parameters for a contract throughout the season and then come to final agreement at the end of next year.

How much of an impact would a Mo extension would be? How much should we be leaving aside for that? He's counting a little over 6 million to this years cap so if you're looking at an extension for him to get this years number you have to back that 6 mil out first. So if we had 12 mil before a Mo extension that number jumps to 18 then you add back in what the new extension numbers would be.

@cloprestiwfan: Many of you concerned about cap space and how it would affect Wilkerson extension. I'd expect that to kick in next season...not in 2015.

Let's also remember we have a franchise tag that could be used on Mo. He's definitely one of the guys we want to keep as a "homegrown" guy! I hope we can do it. Sheldon Richardson won't be too far behind.

Yes. There's no need to extend Mo till next year. I believe we'll have something like $35M - $40M in cap space in 2016 (at least that was what it was before FA this year).

As of now, we are about $40 mil in cap space for 2016 -- but that's with only 37 players under contract. So while there is a lot of cap space, we will also have a lot of roster spots to fill.
