Just so I have this all straight; Self-described team leader skips voluntary workouts of new administration while under contract, nothing to see here, STFU. Fans who have an issue with this, STFU. Also, the silly argument being put forth that "what if something happens to his knee" needs to stop. He's under contract and could've hurt that knee at any point before entering the final year of his contract. That didn't stop him from attending all the voluntary and mandatory workouts, did it? This is a clear instance of a player playing chicken with an organization so as to get a contract, while under contract. Could he be scared about an injury? Of course, but that's the job (like I hear so many say about cops being scared of being shot). Don't like it? Pull a Sean Gilbert and stick to your guns. So if you had a "voluntary" activity at your job how many of your fellow employees would show up? And also, if they didn't show up would you think they were trying to prove a point to their boss or just chalk it up to the fact that it's not mandatory? Comparing an NFL football player to any other occupation is dumb and a terrible analogy. It's like when people try to suggesting balancing the federal budget like you would balance your own budget at home, it's two entirely different things. And you're right, he is under contract. But in his contract it states that he does not have to attend any team activity that is not mandatory. That is in every NFL players contract. So it is not in his contract that he has to show up for "voluntary" workouts like you're suggesting. I love how people try to tell others how to make their money and what they should be doing. You have no clue what goes on in an NFL players life and why he does the things he does. The best thing for him, his family and his future is to not attend these workouts in order to minimize the risk of injury. Are you suggesting that he doesn't do what is in his and his families best interest? Is that what you would do if you were in his position? You would of course say "team first", who cares if I'm going to risk million upon millions of dollars to go to a voluntary workout, that I'm not contractually obligated to attend, just to appease dickhead fans who think they know better. I'm sure that's what you would do. First off, you completely lost me with the use of the everyman analogy to make a point, only to state that using that type of analogy is dumb and terrible. All I said was injuries are a potential risk that comes with the job, just like getting shot is for a cop. Difference is, the chances of a player getting hurt is higher than that of a cop getting shot, I get that. Of course, you likely won't die (but you might, I get that too). Secondly, my issue with this was more about the hypocrisy of it; you can't go stating that you are some kind of leader (generally thought to be a positive, person who sets an example), then go ahead and not do what most of the team is doing simply because you are looking for more money. It sends a mixed signal, one that I feel does not reflect kindly on him. It also doesn't help his cause that he is doing this amidst a regime change that is looking to start off on the right foot, with everyone. As for the strawman argument that I have a problem with him doing what is best for his family; why did he not do what was best for them in the years leading up to this one? Because, temporally, he's concerned about an injury? What, he can't sustain an injury in the super-intense workouts he's doing privately? You know, the ones him and his agent are saying will give him the best opportunity to enter camp in tip-top, beastmode shape instead of the weaksauce voluntary Jets one? Shit, for that matter he shouldn't even be leaving the house! And let's get rid of all those scatter rugs too, wouldn't want him to slip! Those are all silly, of course, but there is a level of hypocrisy on display here. If there wasn't, why not simply say the truth; "I'm concerned for my well-being and potential contract status should I sustain an injury while attending these voluntary workouts. Therefore, as is my contractual right, I will be bypassing them." Because of dickhead fans? I think not. I don't appreciate the presumption you feel you would know what I would do, especially since you are having such an apparently tough time understanding what I wrote previously. As for the dickhead comment, that's just a jerkoff move, but whatever. TL;DR- Wilkerson can do whatever he wants, it's his life, his career. But don't hide behind the "voluntary" status of the workouts as the reason for not attending, then continue to workout privately. Then claim you're a leader. And that you are a Jet for life. Basically, I'm trying to say I have a hard time believing you are so naive as to believe that there's nothing to see here, move on. Really, I'm complimenting you if you think about it. But I'm a dickhead.

Perhaps he is rehabbing well and likes the way things are going, doesn't want fuck it up by changing what he's been doing. For me he gets the benefit of the doubt b/c he has been nothing, but a good soldier thus far. If it was someone like Revis who has been anything, but a team player pulling this stunt I would agree with the people reading into it. For now my point is: he hasn't missed anything mandatory, he has been great in the past about supporting the team, let's maybe give him the benefit of the doubt before ripping him to shreds.

What makes his absence hard to take is the fact you want him to support Bowles from day 1.

I guess dick head was too strong. To criticize a guy for doing what we probably all would do in this situation is the hypocritical part of this discussion. Showing support for Bowles? I'm sure the fact that he's missing these "voluntary" workouts is really going to affect his relationship with Bowles and team. Gtfo here with that shit. All of his teammates would do the same thing and the coaching knows this is a business first, sport second for these guys. It has no impact on their future relationship or the teams comradery. It only matters to whiny fans. (I changed dick head with whiny for you)

Players know the deal, know there are a handful of opportunities to use the system to their advantage and will back Mo to here and back. Players could care less what happens before the season, they only care that whoever we're talking about is ready to contribute opening day and helps them win. Nothing else matters.

You guys are right. This is just La Confora making stuff up. No agents or players ever leak anything to the media. None of these media hacks have sauces and unless someone is willing to put their name on something then it never happened.

Or are you going to give us a shitty "you're right" when you have no answer, no proof? Other than they must have sauces? Without it we are right. No one knows for sure. People le hold out. theynalso stay away from voluntary meetings and don't miss camp. Proof, not the sky is falling and it's Mo's fault shit without any proof. What I really don't get is someone who follows the sport this closely, over the long term who gets all pissy when a player uses what he's entitled to use to try and get a deal done that we all want to get done and feel needs to get done.

Frankly, I wouldnt even want him doing anything until I know his toe is 100%. What got me is that this guy is now a hypocrite. Last year he acted like it was bad for a team-leader to holdout. And I know that it technically isn't a holdout yet but lets be honest, he is using the threat of a holdout so it is basically the same. At least for me it is. So if I was the GM I would leak that we are shopping him. Everyone can have a nice pissing match.

Just like some media guys do. He's not a hypocrite. Being loyal to your team doesn't mean you roll over and accept whatever they try and hand you. If this were the case no one would ever show loyalty. Players on the Jets could care less that hes trying to get his deal done. Not one single player will think he's not a team leader for missing a voluntary workout. And until he actually misses required time he's doing nothing wrong, not hurting anyone, acting disloyal or weakening the team. Theres a long way to go before he's actually taking anything away from the season, hurting the team. This is just off season bullshit that fans needlessly get over worked over.

He has been a great teammate in the past, no bitching over his contract previously, and thus far hasn't missed a mandatory event. His agent came out saying that he didn't want to mess with what had been working for him and thus didn't appear at this one. Of all the people on our team hasn't he earned the benefit of the doubt? I am happy you aren't GM because there is no need try to piss him off or mess with the tenor of negotiations unless he actually does something to dent his otherwise clean track record.
