Of course the Washington franchise didn't do us any favors by franchise tagging whats-his-dink.

Think this development probably means Fitz will hit the market to establish his value -- then see if Mac can meet in the middle. I'm going to guess they cave at 10-11 mill. mistake but options are limited.
The question is, who's offering Fitz 18 mil?...
CLE, no CIN, no PIT, no BAL, no
IND, no JAX, no TEN, no HOU, no
OAK, no DEN.. ehh. no. they'll sooner invest in Brock SD, no KC, no
MIA, no NE, no BUF, no
DAL, no PHI, no WSH, no NYG, no
NOS, no TB, no ATL, no CAR, no
SEA, no STL, no ARZ, no SF.. still not sure where they are right now
DET, no CHI, no MIN, no GB, no
I'm not really sure who we're worried about? SF i guess? he's not going back to HOU, CLE and STL already have journeyman QBs and DEN would just as soon spend that on their own guy

I'm pissed we would throw 8 mil a year at him. If he couldn't make the playoffs with last years schedule then there's no hope for him. Why pay this guy to win 6-8 games tops next year? If we are gonna suck then let's suck with Goff, Wentz, CH, Cook, petty.......anyone that has a shot at bein the future for this team.

I was never on board with Fitz as more than a nice slice of competence in 2015. If I was in control id be trading #20 plus Mo to go up and draft a QB.

I'd take Paxton Lynch over both. i guess the jets would have to be sold on him, and that trade couldn't go down until the other team was on the clock anyway. every new regime gets a few years to get it together, but you wonder how long woody will tolerate either overpaying fitz or praying that one of these mid-rounders luckily pans out. for all tanny's faults, he did try like heck to get a qb, bringing in farve, trading up for sanchez. is lynch worth trading up for, and unloading mo in the process?

I agree with most of the above. It just seems like we'd be bidding against ourselves for Fitzpatrick if we paid him anything similar to what Sam Bradford got from the Eagles.
If Denver wants Fitzpatrick, fine. Then let's make a play for Osweiler. If we have to pay $15 million or more on a QB, I'll gamble on Osweiler's upside over hoping Fitzpatrick duplicates a career year when he's already entering his mid-30s.
Cleveland isn't going to want Fitzpatrick. The Browns have the No. 2 pick in the draft and will get to select the QB they like best. They have McCown on hand to be the "bridge" QB until the rookie is deemed ready. If they want to sign Fitzpatrick to be the bridge QB, then let's just flip a seventh-rounder to the Browns for McCown and let him compete with Geno.
In Houston, Bill O'Brien gave up on Fitzpatrick after the 2014 season and traded him to us. Is he going to reverse course now and outbid us to get him back? Pretty doubtful, I'd think.
If Chip Kelly wants Fitzpatrick, then that would likely mean he's going to get rid of Colin Kaepernick. Again, if I'm going to have to pay $15 million or so a year for a QB, sign me up for Kaepernick's upside over Fitzpatrick, who has had probably three above-average years in an 11-year pro career.
Maybe Los Angeles would be interested, particularly if it doesn't think one of the top three QBs in the draft could fall to No. 15. If Peyton Manning doesn't retire, though, that could be a landing spot for him, and they could draft their QB of the future in the third round or so.
If the Rams aren't interested, I think we'd be bidding against ourselves, and that's bad business. I don't want to sound like I'm so anti-Fitz; I do like him. I like the chemistry he built with our receivers last year, and I like that he really wants to be here.
However, if we lose both Mo Wilkerson and Damon Harrison in large part because of what we have to pay Fitz, that's just silly. I hope I'm wrong, but it sure looks from here that Wilkerson's going to be dealt to a team with plenty of cap space, like the Raiders. The way I look at it is that if we have to pay either Wilkerson or Fitzpatrick $15 million per year, I vote for giving the money to Wilkerson, since he's probably a top-three player at his position. Fitzpatrick is a journeyman. I'd pay Wilkerson and start Geno at QB, rather than pay Fitzpatrick and let arguably our best player leave.
I know we have depth on the defensive line, but let's face it: Richardson is going to get suspended again in 2016 for his brush with the law a week or two after the drug suspension. If it's for, say, four games again, we're probably down to one returning starter (Leonard Williams) on the defensive line for a quarter of the season.

Fitz's season might have actually be a terrible thing for our franchise. I think we all know he's not only not a long term answer, but barely a present one. We beat 1 team with .500 record and got away with a lot of sloppy games because of Marshall/Decker & our stout run-D. 10-6 put us in a shit situation to address the QB. 6-10 would have landed us 1 of the 3. What's done is done, but we can't ignore that 2017 could be dire straits if we have a-back-to-normal-shitty-fitz and Petty as our options.

not sure if fitz's season hurt them. i think it only reinforced how important it is to get a good qb. whether they go for broke in this draft, well, let's see. at this point i'm not sure how excited i'd be if they took a linebacker in the 1st and dak in the 2nd.
